In late 2008, the three-piece added a fourth member and began writing for a full-length. The band and songs had evolved and taken on a new life to a point where a name-change seemed necessary. They decided on Spanish Gamble as their new chosen name and drew a line between their past and the future. Their influences are eclectic, yet their sound is cohesive. While the members are not all Gainesville natives, they fit in nicely with the scene of gruff and catchy music found in the southern punk mecca.
However, it is not to say that they are just another punk band from Gainesville. They have spent a considerable amount of time demoing new songs for their upcoming record with Roger from Less Than Jake and will be venturing out to Oakland, CA to record with Ryan Massey of American Steel in his Sharkbite Studios. The album is to be called “It’s All Coming Down” and much of the lyrical content has to do with finding a sense of purpose in the world. This time around the songs are tighter and more collaborative.
One might be hard-pressed to recognize these young men as the same Dirty Money that slept on your floor just a couple of short years ago. Well they’re not. They are Spanish Gamble, and they’re focused, they’re tight, and these new songs will surely blow you away. The bands ability to at once be catchy and stray away from formulas has created a dynamic combination of excellent sonic qualities. Expect the band to be on the road relentlessly once the album is released and get ready to sing along.
There Is No God Tonight

There is no one who can save you from yourself tonight
You never had a chance
There is no hope at all
There is no sun up in the sky
There are no stars that shine
Cause we've burned them all out
We were born into a world on fire
The wheels are moving and the brakes are fucking gone
I don't think we will stop until this world has turned to dust
So where is your god tonight?
I can't hear him, I can't feel him
There may be no hope for us
But our embers we still burn bright
And I feel so alive tonight
Despite everything falling apart around me
We are hopeless, We are desperate
But we keep moving forward
Into what?
Our own oblivion!
So where is your god tonight?
I can't hear him, I can't feel him
There may be no hope for us
But our embers we still be burning
There's been no goodbyes tonight
Because this isn't over
There's been no goodbyes tonight
Because this still isn't over
There is no god tonight, There is no god tonight
There may be no hope for us
But we will still be burning
So where is our god tonight?
We can't hear him, We can't feel him
There may be no hope for us
But our embers will still burn bright
There's been no goodbyes tonight
Because we are still burning
The song "There Is No God Tonight" by Spanish Gamble is a lament of hopelessness and despair. The lyrics assert that there is no deity who can help the singer in his struggles. He believes that there is no hope and there is no chance for redemption. The image of a sunless sky and a world without stars is used to visually represent the darkness of the singer's situation. Furthermore, the song speaks to the futility of human existence and its eventual destruction. The reference to the wheels and the brakes being gone suggests that there is no stopping the inevitable decline of humanity.
Throughout the song, the singer asks where God is tonight, but he cannot feel or hear him. The idea of God's absence reinforces the hopelessness and despair portrayed in the lyrics. The singer also recognizes that despite the lack of hope, he and his companions continue burning brightly like embers. The bright embers represent the human spirit, which refuses to extinguish despite the bleakness of the situation. The final line of the song "There's been no goodbyes tonight because we are still burning" is a powerful statement that despite the darkness, there is still hope and humanity will continue to persevere.
