Shipwreck
Sparks The Rescue Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Have I been treating you right pretty baby? I'd be better if I wasn't so stoned
But now you're leaving me all on my own I swear I'll be a better man
If you keep drinking that wine little darling you'll be drunk before you know
When that other boy won't show any signs of a gentleman

Be afraid
Darling I'm a hurricane
If you shipwreck your love
I will be all the blame

I dreamt last night I broke in your apartment and I tried on all of your clothes
But I just can't get your shoes on my toes (can't get your shoes on my toes)
So I'm dancing to your stereo
Well if that boy don't dance with you darling there will be no romance ever starting
You'll be sitting all alone wishing I was all over you

Be afraid
Darling I'm a hurricane
If you shipwreck your love
I will be all the blame
Say my name
No just light it up in flames
If you're not in love then I don't want to play your games
No I don't want to play

Come on come on what are you messing with (Come on)
Come on come on what are you messing with (Come on)
Come on come on

Be afraid
Darling I'm a hurricane
If you shipwreck your love
I will be all the blame Say my name
No just light it up in flames

If you're not in love then I don't want to play your games
No I don't want to play your games

Overall Meaning

"Shipwreck" by Sparks The Rescue is a song about a man who is confessing his love for a woman and is afraid of losing her. The lyrics are full of emotion and passion as the man tries to convince his lover to stay with him. He admits that he hasn't been the best version of himself, but promises to change and be a better man. The use of the hurricane metaphor implies that the man is intense and powerful, and if the relationship fails, it will be all his fault. He is afraid of losing his love and expresses it in the lines "be afraid, darling I'm a hurricane, if you shipwreck your love, I will be all the blame."

In the second verse, the man is dreaming of his lover and trying on her clothes but unable to fit into her shoes, which symbolize that he doesn't fit into her life entirely, even though he desires her. He encourages her to dance with him and warns her about the other boy who won't treat her like a gentleman. The final verse shows the man's desperation as he pleads with his lover not to play games with him if she is not in love with him. The song ends with the repeated chorus, "be afraid, darling I'm a hurricane, if you shipwreck your love, I will be all the blame."
