II
Sparrows Swarm and Sing Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hey
Can you feel, can you feel that?
Hey
Can you feel, can you feel that?
Hey
Can you feel, can you feel that?
Hey
Can you feel that? Can you feel that? Yeah

Something in the air that wasn't there
At least it wasn't 'til I was aware
How do you discover what was under chairs that you never use
Until your shoes begin to bruise and you could use a new pair?
Neglected until I was affected by another's fears
If you're respected, it's expected that you choose
A side to stand on or stand by, but we did not prepare
So we lose for tryna care

Hey
Can you feel, can you feel that?
Hey
Can you feel, can you feel that?
Hey
Can you feel, can you feel that?
Hey
Can you feel that? Can you feel that?

Much is said in silence
In my head, I'm hiding
Mislead by what I'm fed, I'm slidin'
To myself, I'm lying, can't participate in private
Learn to listen to the feeling even if it's quiet
Joy is a villain if it's poised against another's cryin'
Ignorance is when you don't deny it
To be complacent in the road to triumph
Never minding that the bricks were laid to squish a rising
We feel the bumps of disregard in chariots we climb in
If I'm driving, I forget I'm blinded
Nothing's said, but all is felt along the cliffs of Zion

Hey
Can you feel, can you feel that?
Hey
Can you feel, can you feel that?
Hey
Can you feel, can you feel that?

Hey
Can you feel that? Can you feel that? Yeah

Overall Meaning

The song "II" by Sparrows Swarm and Sing is a reflective piece that portrays the feeling of being affected by someone else's fears and the impact it has on personal growth. The repetitive question "Hey, can you feel that?" is a call to action, an invitation for the listener to pay attention to the subtle signs of neglect and disregard in their surroundings. The opening line "something in the air that wasn't there" refers to the intangible feeling of a shift in the environment that is hard to pinpoint until it is acknowledged. The following line, "at least it wasn't 'til I was aware," highlights that noticing and understanding the signs around us is crucial to our own sense of wellbeing and awareness.

The second verse delves deeper into the personal struggle with self-deception and the need to listen to one's feelings, even if they are uncomfortable. The line "mislead by what I'm fed, I'm slidin'" refers to the difficulty of differentiating between external influences and one's own inner voice. The juxtaposition of joy and villain portrays the idea that personal growth may cause discomfort for others. The line "never minding that the bricks were laid to squish a rising" indicates that the path to self-awareness requires overcoming obstacles that are put in place to maintain the status quo.

Overall, the song is a contemplative piece that encourages the listener to be alert to the subtle signs of neglect and to trust their internal voice. It is a reminder to be mindful of the world around us and to be prepared to face discomfort in the pursuit of personal growth.

My friend found this as a CD and the "box" was wooden and we were all confused on what it was, but it was good! It was creepy because we had no idea what it was at first, but it was really cool!
