1) Speech Patterns is a punk rock band from Australia, formed in 2012.
With influences such as Lungs, Propagandhi and A Wilhelm Scream, Speech Patterns have produced a sound that is sure to leave you picking up your jaw by the end of an intense, melodic and excitable live show.
Following their independently released self-titled 7” vinyl in 2014 Speech Patterns Played shows relentlessly with local and international bands such as Luca Brasi, Title Fight, Propogahndi, A Wilhelm Scream, The Smith Street Band and The Menzingers.
After slowing down in late 2015 with an indefinite hiatus, Speech Patterns have returned with a fresh lineup that has once again sparked their passion to play for their own blend of fast melodic punk. Following the release of CROSSWATER in May, 2017 is turning into a big year for the four Tasmanians with a full-length record in the works as well as a return to touring.

Speech Patterns Lyrics

Erase them, push them out to sea
An alternate reality,
A dream that feels so real to me.
Your thoughts on who I ought to be
Retaliating subtlety
Is all your life will ever be
Darling, you said, "Well, I swear I told you the truth."
Your memory is haunting me, baby
So trivial, yet pivotal
I left it all for you
But if it wasn't enough for you, baby
Well why didn't you just come out and say it?
Don't wake me up, don't fill my cup
You don't have the right to tell me when enough is enough, yeah
Such a waste of a pretty face, and now we're up in arms again
Can you say that again?
Darling, you said, "Well, I swear I told you the truth."
Your memory is haunting me, baby
So trivial, yet pivotal
"It'll never happen again, darling," you said,
But I knew it just wasn't true.
What you meant to me's a memory, baby
So trivial, yet pivotal
You're just a memory, you're just a memory.
I tried to slight the lies,
but I read the truth you hid behind those eyes.
Oh, what a waste of such a pretty face, baby.
Remember when you said, "I'll never let you down."
Say it to my face.
The song "Deja Vu" by Speech Patterns talks about the struggle of letting go of memories and moving on from a relationship that didn't work out. The lyrics suggest that the best way to get over the memories of the past is to erase them, push them out to sea, and live in an alternate reality or dream that feels real. The singer struggles with the thought of who they ought to be based on their partner's expectations, and it becomes frustrating for them to retaliate subtly without being true to themselves.
The singer's memory is haunted by their past love interest, and they can't help but think of the trivial and pivotal moments of their relationship. They left everything for their partner, but it wasn't enough for them. This frustration builds up as the partner didn't explicitly say that they weren't satisfied with the relationship. The singer feels as if their memories are being dredged up for no reason by their partner, and it's a waste of a pretty face to go through the same arguments all over again.
The third verse of the song talks about how the singer tried to overlook the lies but ended up reading the truth behind their partner's eyes. The partner had promised to never let the singer down again, but the singer knew that it wasn't true. Although the partner was a significant memory, they are now just a memory for the singer, and they cannot get the thoughts out of their head.
