Shame
Spencer Sutherland Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I always tell all these girls that I only want you
But I sit and I wonder
I wonder if you do that too
And its times like these that I think
I should be living my life
You need one or two, not just you,
Need other love on the side, fine
You say you got shame
So why don′t you show it
But you're just hateful, girl and you know it
You could fall down on your knees, you could beg
But I′d rather, I'd rather be dead
Yeah, you got shame
So why don't you show it
I need a second, I need a minute,
I need the truth, I need the truth
I got something to get off my chest
You should′ve went home but you only cared for yourself, yeah
You want reactions, your actions are nothing that′s new
But if you keep this up,
Well you know what it drives me to do, true
You say you got shame
So why don't you show it
But you′re just hateful, girl and you know it
You could fall down on your knees, you could beg
But I'd rather, I′d rather be dead
Yeah, you got shame
So why don't you show it
You drive me to the edge once again,
Is this all in my head, I think you want me dead
I think I want you gone, what the fuck are you on,
Now our future is dead
How you gonna say that
You imagine yourself laying right next to me?
How you gonna fake that
You were in your room waiting patiently, please
You say you got shame
So why don′t you show it
But you're just hateful, girl and you know it
You could fall down on your knees, you could beg
But I'd rather, I′d rather be dead

Yeah, you got shame
So why don′t you show it

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Spencer Sutherland's song, "Shame," depict a complex and tumultuous relationship between two people who can't seem to let go of each other, despite their apparent dislike of one another. Sutherland opens the song by expressing his devotion to one particular girl, claiming that he always tells other girls he only wants her. However, he then admits that he has doubts about whether she feels the same way, and wonders if she is seeking other forms of love outside of their relationship. Sutherland then grows frustrated, insisting that she is hateful and only cares for herself, and encourages her to show her shame instead of hiding behind it. He is desperate for honesty and the truth from her.

As the song progresses, the tension between the two parties intensifies. Sutherland feels like he is being pushed to the edge and wonders if his feelings are just in his head or if she really wants him dead. He begins to feel like their future together is dead and questions her motives and feelings towards him. The song ends with Sutherland encouraging her to show her shame again, suggesting that it might be the key to understanding their complicated relationship.

Overall, "Shame" is a raw and emotional portrayal of a volatile relationship, filled with doubts, frustrations, and conflicting emotions. Its lyrics remind us that love can be messy, challenging, and hard to let go of, even when it causes pain.

I know him from that movie "Afterlife Of The Party", his songs are really good. He was in that movie playing as Koop, a pop singer. Just one look and I know he's gonna blow up one day. You'll see. Everything will fall into places.
