Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
bajo la luz,
que se deshacen en las colinas,
atadas al Sur...
Lecho de piedra imaginaria,
a la espera de viajeros...
el tren se fue y adiós le dijo al día,
después su silbato pegó en el sueño,
y aquello se hizo oscuridad...
una infinita oscuridad
Hojas sin rumbo bajo el viento,
conserven todos sus desvíos...
yo sé que no interrumpirán el clamor,
y ese contacto fiel detrás,
de las urbes calcinadas,
y explotadas por los rayos...
Oh no,
no rechaces este sol,
aunque duela...
aunque no sea tu despertar...
ya no te quedes en el dolor...
no tengas miedo de sanar...
ya no queda nada de la espera...
Lluvia temprana desguazada,
entre las manchas de la tierra,
sí, me dice que yo no ignoraré tu dolor,
no, ni tu soledad,
por más que mis manos cayeran del árbol,
como las hojas en otoño...
Oh no,
no rechaces este sol,
aunque duela...
aunque no sea tu despertar....
ya no te quedes en el dolor,
no tengas miedo de sanar...
ya no queda nada de la espera...
In "La Espera" ("The Wait"), Spinetta y los Socios del Desierto describe a bodies like nests that dissolve under the light, tied to the South by imaginary stone beds waiting for travelers. The train has departed and everything has disappeared with its whistle sound. The song resembles being lost in the desert and the idea of waiting for a train that will never come. The lyrics also hint at the idea of healing from the past, suggesting that the rays can explode the cities and cause pain, but one should not let the past and pain stop them from healing.
The line "Cuerpos como nidos, bajo la luz, que se deshacen en las colinas, atadas al Sur" ("Bodies like nests, under the light, that dissolve on the hills, tied to the South") evokes an image of dissolving bodies in the desert under the sun. The line "yo sé que no interrumpirán el clamor, y ese contacto fiel detrás, de las urbes calcinadas, y explotadas por los rayos" ("I know they will not interrupt the clamor, and that faithful contact behind, the cities incinerated, and exploded by the rays") suggests that the bodies are unable to interrupt the noise and chaos around them. However, there is hope in the song that one should not reject the light, even if it is painful, because there is a chance for healing and moving on from the wait.
Overall, the lyrics in "La Espera" capture the feeling of being lost and waiting, yet there's the possibility of healing and not letting the pain consume you.
