I'll Be Around
Spinners Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

This, is our fork in the road
Love's last episode
There's nowhere to go, oh no

You made your choice, now it's up to me
To bow out gracefully
Though you hold the key, but baby
Whenever you call me, I'll be there
Whenever you want me, I'll be there
Whenever you need me, I'll be there
I'll be around

I, knew just what to say
Now I found out today
That all the words had slipped away, but I know

There's always a chance
A tiny spark will remain, yeah
And sparks turn into flames
And love can burn once again, but I know you know

Whenever you call me, I'll be there
Whenever you want me, I'll be there
Whenever you need me, I'll be there
I'll be around, yeah

Whenever you call me, I'll be there
Whenever you want me, I'll be there
Even if I have to call, I'll be there
I'll be around

Just call me on the phone, I'll be there
I'll never leave you alone, I'll be there
Just call out my name you know I know you know
I'll be around

I'll be skipping and jumping, I'll be there
I'll be a-rippin' it up, I'll be there

I'll be calling out your name to let you know
I'll be around

Overall Meaning

The Spinners' song "I'll Be Around" is a song about the end of a romance. The song's singer has come to a fork in the road and is facing the prospect of the end of the relationship. The lyrics describe the situation as "Love's last episode" and acknowledge that there is "nowhere to go."

In the next verse, the singer references a previous conversation in which he "knew just what to say." However, he has now realized that "all the words had slipped away." He still holds out hope that there is a chance for the relationship to rekindle, however small, as "sparks turn into flames/and love can burn once again."

The chorus serves as an assurance from the singer that he will be there for his former partner, "whenever you call me, I'll be there/whenever you want me, I'll be there/whenever you need me, I'll be there/I'll be around." He promises that he will "never leave you alone" and that he will always be "calling out your name."

Overall, the song is a poignant reminder of the end of a relationship and the importance of staying true to one's promises even when things are tough.

RIP Henry Fambrough. You were the last original member of the Spinners who passed away yesterday at 85. You lived in my neighborhood where I live now, and it was an honor to know you lived here. You were a member of an amazing group! I listened to every song the Spinners ever released. AMAZING TALENT!

I'd like to dedicate this song to my father as well. He died just about one year ago. I was holding his hand when he passed. As a father, he really did it all. I had the sense today that he was sending me this Spinners song... ☺

@karlthomas7363

@@MsBenlane music like this is what was originally called rock n roll in the 1950s before the white people took it over.doo wop groups like frankie lymon, the coasters, moonglows, the dominoes etc were considered rock n roll.
