Cry
Splendid Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Feels like a crowd in a small town
When only poison comes out
Can't drink it away
Can't argue it off
But I can cry
My tongue's stuck in my mouth
When only anger shouts
Can't drink it away
Can't argue it off
But I can cry
Truth is I love you its just twisted
Into a you you didn't know existed
And all the other lame excuses
In "Cry" by Splendid, the lyrics describe a complex emotional state where the singer is feeling lost and overwhelmed. They feel like they are in a small town full of people, but despite being surrounded by others, they are unable to express themselves. The singer is struggling to express their emotions and communicate with their loved one. They acknowledge that they love this person, but the relationship is not straightforward. The more they try to find a solution, the more they feel like they are failing.
The singer is frustrated with themselves because they want to be able to express their love for their partner, but instead, they find themselves lashing out in anger or apologizing for their behavior. They feel like they are not in control of their emotions and that their love is twisted or distorted. The lyrics also suggest that the singer is struggling with addiction, acknowledging that they are unable to drink away or argue off their problems. In the end, the only thing they can do is cry.
Overall, "Cry" is a powerful exploration of the complexity of relationships and the struggle to communicate important emotions. It highlights the importance of vulnerability and honesty in relationships and the impact of emotions and addiction on our ability to express ourselves.
