1) Spliff is a grindcore band from Lixouri, Kefalonia, an island in Greece.
Spliff is:
El Crocodilo - Guitar
Crunkhead - Bass
Hydro Skunk 420 - Vocals
Sparky Red Eye - Drums and backing vocals
2) Spliff was a German New Wave ("Neue Deutsche Welle") band in the 1970s and 1980s.
Formed in April 1979, Spliff was a split-off of the Nina Hagen Band after the four male musicians claimed that Nina had become too bossy.
Three members, Manfred Praeker (b), Bernhard Potschka (g) and Herwig Mitteregger (dr) had been playing together before in German political rock band Lokomotive Kreuzberg. Reinhold Heil (key) joined for the Nina Hagen Band. On their 3 german albums all of them took turns at the lead singer part.
Spliff released four albums:
- The English album Spliff Radio Show (1980) is a rather cynical rock opera about the rise and fall of an imaginary rock star and Rock'n'Roll business in common. "The Spliff Radio Show" was co-written by Australian singer Alf Klimek ("Klimax“) who also took the lead vocals part. They were Joined by DJ Rik DeLisle and background singers Lisa Bialac und Lyma Russel
Three German albums (just Praeker, Potschka, Heil, Mitteregger):
- 85555 (1982). Driven by the neue deutsche welle hype this album has been their greatest success in Germany
- Herzlichen Glückwunsch (1982)
- Schwarz Auf Weiß (1984)
In 1985 Herwig Mitteregger left the band to focus on his solo career. After 1985 "Schwarz auf Weiß"-tour (supported by Curt Cress on drums) the band split up.

Spliff Lyrics

In paese dei limoni
Brigade Rosse e la Mafia
Cacciano sulla Strada del Sol
Distruzione della Lira
Gelati Motta con brio
Tecco mecco con ragazza
Sentimento grandioso per Italia
Baciato da sole calda
Borsellino e vuoto totale
Mangiare
Tu capito andiamo
Asti Spumante wird es nicht gerade sein
Aber dafür gibt's schon wieder mal
Spaghetti Carbonara e una Coca Cola
Carbonara e una Coca Cola
Carbonara e una Coca Cola
Carbonara e una Coca Cola
Spaghetti carbonara e una Coca Cola
Carbonara e una Coca Cola
Carbonara e una Coca Cola
Carbonara e una Coca Cola
Carbonara e una Coca Cola
Carbonara e una Coca Cola
The lyrics to Spliff's song Carbonara convey a deep love and admiration for Italy, specifically the landscapes, the culture, and the people. The singer expresses a desire to travel to Italy, particularly to the country of lemons, which could refer to the Amalfi coast. However, the lyrics also allude to the country's tumultuous political history, represented by the Brigate Rosse or Red Brigades, a far-left, militant organization that was active during the 1970s and 1980s, and the Mafia, an organized crime syndicate that has plagued Italy for centuries. The singer also refers to the destruction of the Lira, the former currency of Italy, which may point to the economic struggles the country has faced.
Despite these challenges, the singer is moved by the beauty and warmth of Italy, particularly the sensation of being kissed by the warm sun. The mention of the empty wallet or vuoto totale alludes to the financial challenges the singer may face in trying to enjoy the best that Italy has to offer. This leads them to choose to eat only Spaghetti Carbonara and drinking a Coca Cola, a simple yet comforting and delicious combination.
The lyrics also include a small dialogue with another person, where the singer offers them a Spliff, a German band that performs in English, to share. This person may or may not be interested in the Spliff, but the singer's being blonde is not enough of a selling point. The rest of the dialogue includes mentions of Amaretto, a sweet and bittersweet Italian liqueur, and the singer's invitation to the person to have dinner, most likely featuring Spaghetti Carbonara and other Italian dishes.
Overall, Carbonara is a song that celebrates Italy's beauty and warmth while acknowledging its complicated history and economic challenges.
