[1] An indie pop band from Perth, Australia.
[2] A dark-wave trio from Bielefeld, Germany.
[1] Perth's Split Seconds formed in 2009 as an outlet for singer and guitarist Sean Pollard, following his previous band New Rules For Boats' hiatus. It eventually solidified into a six-piece band consisting of well-known local musicians, with Pollard accompanied by Rhys Davies from Faith In Plastics (guitar/vocals), former New Rules For Boats bandmate Ben Golby (keyboard/vocals), Jack Trewenack from The Jackards (drums/vocals), Vaughan Davies from Emperors (bass/vocals), and latest addition Todd Pickett from Abbe May & The Rockin' Pneumonia (guitar/vocals).
Split Seconds started 2011 in a blaze of glory, adding just about every summer festival to their resume, including the coveted Unearthed spot at the Big Day Out. Their debut release, self-titled EP Split Seconds, soon followed, with single Bed Down entering high rotation on alternative radio. They dominated the 2011 WAMI Awards, winning five awards including Best Male Vocalist, Best Indie Pop Act and Most Promising New Act. They have since supported many well-known artists including Sufjan Stevens, Tim Minchin, Little Red and Cloud Control, and increased their frequent flyer points by taking in national tours with The Panics, Owl Eyes and Jebediah.

Split Seconds Lyrics

Quickest city, that I′ve seen
You take stock, you look back
Your make it last, you make it last,
You make it last...
We may not be, in this place for long
When we leave, we may not return
The time for us is now
No love on the top floor
Not what we're here for
No love on the top floor
Not what we′re here for
Oh, you did it
You stumbled on my button
You came across it
And the city wont come
No love on the top floor
Not what we're here for
No love on the top floor
Not what we're here for
Leave room on the postcard
Save coin and remember who your friends are
Not now, there′s no how
Make it fast, make it fast
We may not be, in this place for long
When we leave, we may not return
We may not be, in this place for long
When we leave, we may not return
No love on the top floor
Not what we′re here for
No love on the top floor
Not what we're here for
No love on the top floor
Not what we′re here for
No love on the top floor
The lyrics to Split Seconds' song "Top Floor" suggest a sense of urgency and restlessness. The first line "No love on the top floor" sets a tone of emptiness and disconnection. The second line, "Quickest city that I've seen" adds to the atmosphere of haste and movement. The following lines "You take stock, you look back, you make it last" encourage the listener to reflect on their experiences and make the most of their time. The repetition of "You make it last" evokes a feeling of determination to make the most of every moment. The chorus repeats the message that love is not the purpose of being on the top floor, building up the idea that time is limited and there are other priorities to focus on.
The second verse continues with the idea of making the most of their time, suggesting that they may not be in this place for long and may not return. The repetition of this message emphasizes the importance of seizing opportunities while they are still available. The lines "Oh, you did it, you stumbled on my button, you came across it" suggest a sudden realization or epiphany. The final lines of the song "Leave room on the postcard, save coin and remember who your friends are, not now, there's no how, make it fast, make it fast" communicate the idea that they should take what they can with them while being efficient and mindful of what is truly important.
Overall, the lyrics of "Top Floor" convey a feeling of urgency and a desire to maximize experiences and opportunities. The song suggests that time is limited and encourages the listener to make the most of what they have. Through its repetition and evocative language, the song successfully conveys a sense of restlessness and a desire to make the most out of life.

Quickest city, that I've seen

You take stock, you look back
Reflect on your past achievements and experiences
You make it last, You make it last, You make it last...
Make your current situation and happiness endure
We may not be, in this place for long
We might not stay in this city for a long time
When we leave, we may not return
Once we leave, we might not come back at all
We can see. The time for us is now
We understand that the present is the best time for us to take action and pursue our goals
Not what we're here for
We did not come to this location to find love
Oh, you did it. You stumbled on my button. You came across it. And the city won't come
You press my buttons and affect me, but the city and its fast pace will not stop for us
Leave room on the postcard. Save coin and remember who your friends are
Don't spend all your money on material things, save and prioritize relationships with friends
Not now, there's no how. Make it fast, make it fast
