The band consists of Jack Cofer on bass and vocals, Seith Miller on guitar, gameboy, keyboard, and vocals, Ondine Quinn on keyboards and violin, and Chris Oaks on drums and percussion. The Spooky Qs sound can be described as a mixture of various influences including art rock, riot grrl punk, gypsy music, electro-pop and 90's alternative.

The band formed in early 2008 after Cofer, Miller, and Quinn left a different band that they were in at the time to pursue a more ambitious sound. After a few members came in went throughout 2008, Oaks joined the band after seeing a drum machine-assisted version of the band at a bowling alley. After honing their live act throughout the remainder of 2008, the Spooky Qs began working on their first EP, entitled Winterband.
