1) Spoon is an American indie rock band from Austin, Texas. The band was formed in late 1993 by lead singer/guitarist Britt Daniel and drummer Jim Eno. Current members also include: Eric Harvey (keyboard, guitar, percussion, backing vocals) and Rob Pope (bass, backing vocals - replaced Joshua Zarbo in 2007).
After releasing their debut LP Telephono on Matador Records, the band signed with Elektra in 1998, but the contract was dropped soon after the band released A Series of Sneaks. In response the band released a two-song single titled The Agony of Laffitte (referring to Elektra A&R man Ron Laffitte). Eventually they signed to Merge Records.
Spoon has been met with widespread critical acclaim. Girls Can Tell, released in 2001, sold more copies than both their previous releases combined. Kill the Moonlight accomplished the same feat a year later. Gimme Fiction was released on May 10, 2005 and continued the trend of increasing popularity for the band.
Britt Daniel wrote much of the soundtrack to the 2006 film Stranger Than Fiction. Four tracks by Spoon are also featured.
The band released their sixth studio album Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga on July 10, 2007; those who purchased the first pressing also received a bonus disc titled Get Nice!.
Transference is their seventh studio album. It was released on January 18, 2010 in Europe, and on January 19 in North America, to moderately positive reviews.

Paper Tiger
Spoon Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And I won't force my will
I will no longer do the devil's wishes
Something I read on a dollar bill
A paper tiger can't tell you where he stands
We'll go back tonight the way that we came
I'm not dumb, just want to hold your hand
Where we want to be
And alright
What that we could be
We could go kick down some doors together
Stay out til morning sharp as knives
The new war will get you it will not protect you
But I will be there with you when you turn out the light
Said I will be there with you when you turn out the light
I will be there with you when you turn out the light
The lyrics of Spoon's "Paper Tiger" can be open to interpretation, but one possible meaning is a theme of loyalty and resisting temptation. In the opening lines, the singer promises not to hold their loved one back or force their will, indicating a desire for mutual respect in the relationship. The following lines reference refusing to do "the devil's wishes," which could be interpreted as making a commitment to being a better person and resisting negative influences.
The song's title of "Paper Tiger" refers to something that appears strong but is actually weak, which could reflect the singer's desire to be strong and resist temptation, while also acknowledging how difficult this can be. The line "A paper tiger can't tell you where he stands" may suggest that someone who is fake or insincere cannot be trusted or relied upon.
The chorus of "alright, where we want to be / and alright, what that we could be" could be interpreted as a hopeful outlook on the future, with the singer and their loved one envisioning their goals together. The final lines of the song, "I will be there with you when you turn out the light," emphasize the theme of loyalty and commitment in the relationship, with the singer promising to always be there for their loved one.
