1) Spoon is an American indie rock band from Austin, Texas. The band was formed in late 1993 by lead singer/guitarist Britt Daniel and drummer Jim Eno. Current members also include: Eric Harvey (keyboard, guitar, percussion, backing vocals) and Rob Pope (bass, backing vocals - replaced Joshua Zarbo in 2007).
After releasing their debut LP Telephono on Matador Records, the band signed with Elektra in 1998, but the contract was dropped soon after the band released A Series of Sneaks. In response the band released a two-song single titled The Agony of Laffitte (referring to Elektra A&R man Ron Laffitte). Eventually they signed to Merge Records.
Spoon has been met with widespread critical acclaim. Girls Can Tell, released in 2001, sold more copies than both their previous releases combined. Kill the Moonlight accomplished the same feat a year later. Gimme Fiction was released on May 10, 2005 and continued the trend of increasing popularity for the band.
Britt Daniel wrote much of the soundtrack to the 2006 film Stranger Than Fiction. Four tracks by Spoon are also featured.
The band released their sixth studio album Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga on July 10, 2007; those who purchased the first pressing also received a bonus disc titled Get Nice!.
Transference is their seventh studio album. It was released on January 18, 2010 in Europe, and on January 19 in North America, to moderately positive reviews.

The Ghost of You Lingers
Spoon Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Would you calm me down?
You settled this part
Feelings I fight (all the strangers in town)
Feeling so bright (would know if you were here)
The feelings I fight (would you ease my mind?)
Yeah (Come on!)
And I, I know that I need some
Give a thought to the one that you know
Or would you calm me down
When the night gets shadowed
We fast
We put on the clinic
If you were here
It felt good to me
(would you calm me down)
Can't see I'm losing it
Must have set up the scene
(The man asleep knockup)
Put on a clinic
(I see it) But I will need to write
(we settled this part) They're all alive
Oh, would you ease my mind?
Yeah
(The ghost of you lingers)
Put on a clinic till we hit the wall
(And leaves)
Just like a sailor with his wools beat soft
Come on
I had a light bad noon that could be put back together
My life
So light
Would you settle this part?
If you were here
Would you calm me down?
The ghost of you lingers
And leaves
I always think about it
Oh, would you calm me down?
The lyrics of Spoon's "The Ghost of You Lingers" can be interpreted in different ways by different listeners. The song seems to be talking about missing someone and the feelings that come with it. The opening line, "If you were here, would you calm me down?" suggests that the singer is feeling unsettled and could use some comfort. The following lines highlight the singer's struggle with their feelings and the desire for the person they miss to be present. They wonder if the person would be able to ease their mind and calm them down if they were here.
The chorus, "The ghost of you lingers and leaves, I always think about it. Oh, would you calm me down?" shows the persistence of this person's memory and how they can't shake off the feelings. They are haunted by the memory of the missed individual, as if their spirit continues to linger around the singer long after they've gone. The song ends with the singer asking if the person could settle this part if they were back and calm them down.
The lyrics are ambiguous and can mean different things depending on the listener's interpretation. It touches on the universal experience of longing for someone and the difficulty of letting go of the memory, which could be why it has resonated with many people.

I realize this is a difficult tune to reproduce live, but I think this would be a lot better if they'd utilize more backup vocals to cover all the melodies. I like the addition of the drums.
