The band, from Burlington, Ontario, consisted of Gordon Deppe (vocals and guitar), Sandy Horne (vocals and bass), Rob Preuss (keyboards and piano) and Derrick Ross (drums). Preuss also replaced Brett Wickens in 1980.
In the late eighties, Preuss went on to play with Honeymoon Suite and Ross left the band and were replaced by Scott MacDonald and Steve Kendry.
The band released five albums (and a soundtrack that was credited to Gordon Deppe but included a couple songs from the "Tell No Lies" ep).
Their most popular songs included " Romantic Traffic", "Nova Heart", "Old Emotions" and "Tell No Lies".
Gordon Deppe is currently a music programmer for one of the Galaxie Music Network (television) channels in Canada.

Bridges Over Borders
Spoons Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Around you
The stars all streak like headlights
Through the room
Then like a crystal ball all cloudy
Suddenly it gets crystal clear
Like a dream without an anchor
It¹s floating through the midnight air
Knocking
I¹m taking
Bridges over borders
I got a new plan
I got to work it out
I¹m taking
Bridges over borders
Scrap the discipline
Scrap everything
You thought that you¹d be clever
That you¹d fool time
But this will be forever
No more lies
Like a windowpane all foggy
Something comes and wipes it clean
Like ambitions long forgotten
The picture¹s coming back to me
It¹s knocking at my door
Knocking
I¹m taking
Bridges over borders
I got a new plan
I got to work it out
I¹m taking
Bridges over borders
Scrap the old plan
Throw it out
I¹m taking
Bridges over borders
Scrap the discipline
Scrap everything
Throw it away!
The lyrics to "Bridges Over Borders" by Spoons speak to breaking free of limitations and restrictions in order to pursue a new way of life. The opening lines describe a world that is constantly in motion, with everything spinning around the listener. The metaphorical use of stars streaking like headlights implies a sense of chaos and confusion. However, just as suddenly, the fog clears and everything becomes clear. This could represent a moment of epiphany or realization.
The chorus of the song declares the singer's intent to take "bridges over borders" and start anew. The repetition of the phrase emphasizes the importance of breaking free from constraints and pursuing a new path. The idea of "scrapping" everything suggests a complete overhaul of the old ways in order to create something new and exciting. The repeated knocking at the door could represent opportunities or ideas trying to get through to the singer.
The lyrics also reference the idea of time, highlighting the importance of seizing the moment rather than being trapped by the past. The image of a window that is foggy and then suddenly clean again might represent the process of gaining clarity on one's goals and desires. Overall, the song speaks to the power of free will and the importance of taking risks in order to create a better future.
