Thru These Eyes
Spread Eagle Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Thru these eyes and thru the years
Love's passed by and left me here
You're so far away
And time's brought on a change
Thru these eyes that never see
Photographs of you and me
A perfect picture
Of what could never be

Chorus
God in Heaven
Don't waste your time or tears on me
Cause I'm too far gone
I don't need sympathy
God in Heaven
I'll tell you why I've grown so cold
It's the things that I've seen Thru These Eyes

This cold world turns again
I drown myself in sin
Sinking deeper now
The lights they grow so dim

Thru These Eyes all is black
And it's too late for turning back
I'll be leaving soon
And time won't heal these wounds

Chorus

Tell me why, tell me why
I've been ripped apart and left here to die
Crimes of love, Crimes of hate
It's not too late if you
Take a look around you
There's got to be an answer
I ain't playin' your fool
So give me what I'm after

When all I see is pain in a world full of lies
I wish that I could never see a damn thing
Thru These Eyes

Chorus

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Spread Eagle's song Thru These Eyes convey a deep sense of melancholy and despair. The singer laments about the passage of time and how love has passed him by, leaving him feeling isolated and alone. The lyrics suggest that the singer has seen a lot of pain and suffering in his life, and as a result, he has become jaded and cynical.

The chorus speaks to the singer's feelings of hopelessness and disillusionment. He asks God in Heaven not to waste his time or tears on him because he feels that he is too far gone. He doesn't want anyone's sympathy, and he explains that the reason he has grown so cold is that he's seen too much pain and suffering through his eyes.

The rest of the song expands on the idea that the world is a dark and cruel place, and the singer feels trapped in it. He talks about drowning himself in sin and sinking deeper into darkness. He wishes that he could just turn away from the pain and ignore everything happening around him. However, he realizes that this is not possible, and he must face the world with all its pain and suffering.

This is one of those songs that should of gotten better play than it did. Great lyrics that resonate with you. Great composition with the music. This song is timeless. I bought the album when It first came out and played this & Switchblade Serenade in a cover band I had with my brother. Spread Eagle is a very talented band that unfortunately was stuck with the glam downfall caused by grunge. Would of loved to see them live.

Deana Rupe I saw these guys 5-6 times in Boston at the channel and Axis and even helped them load in at a show in New Haven. They absolutely ROCKED every time. Ray is just an amazing singer and Paul dibartolo is so underrated, he was a great guitarist and wrote some great stuff. This album is just classic. So many awesome memories of those days. Peace ✌️
