All's Well
Squeeze Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Frankie got the notion, to sail across the ocean,
To find a little love who had disappeared
Nice girls on a liner, meant he didn′t find her,
Frankie's such a devil mixing women with beer

Frankly I could see no harm, always in each other′s arms
All's well that ends well, if it ends at all
All's well that ends well, if it ends at all

She was juicy like an apple, so he took her to a chapel
To have and to hold and to do or to die
The honeymooning couple brought no one no trouble,
Romancing in the fields under bright starry skies,

Frankly I could see no harm, always in each other′s arms
All′s well that ends well, if it ends at all,
All's well that ends well, if it ends at all

Other guys don′t like him when it comes to girls,
As for how they treat him that's a different world,
You know they cheat him, break his heart as well

Frankie keeps on choosing, girls he keeps on losing,
He′s been messed around more than you or I,
He is foolish with his money, every girl he calls 'honey′,
But I've never seen him when he cries

Frankly I could see no harm, always in each other's arms,

All′s well that ends well, if it ends at all,
All′s well that ends well, if it ends at all.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Squeeze's song All's Well tell the story of Frankie, a man who has been searching for a lost love and exploring the world to find her. Along the way, he encounters other women but is known for his lack of success in relationships. The song is a commentary on his struggle to find love and the idea that even if things do not end perfectly, they can still be considered successful. The lyrics touch on themes of love, loss, and perseverance.

The first verse speaks to Frankie's adventurous nature and his desire to find his lost love. He travels across the ocean but ends up meeting other women instead. He is known for mixing women with beer, suggesting that he is not very serious about relationships. The chorus of the song reminds us that even if things do not go according to plan, as long as they "end well," it can still be considered a success.

The second verse tells the story of Frankie's latest romance, which appears to be going well. He takes his lover to a chapel where they are wed, and they have a peaceful honeymoon together. The chorus repeats the idea that as long as things end well, they are successful.

The final verse speaks to Frankie's struggles in love. He is constantly choosing the wrong women and getting his heart broken. The other men are unkind to him, but the singer has sympathy for Frankie, as he has never seen him cry. The chorus repeats again, emphasizing the idea that success is not always about perfection, but rather about things ending well.

Overall, the song All's Well is a commentary on love and the idea that success can still be achieved even if things do not end perfectly. The lyrics tell the story of a man who is struggling to find love but is persistent in his pursuits nonetheless.

Just subscribed to your channel. I've been a squeeze fan since 83. These B-sides were never released in Canada and I don't have all their compilation albums so maybe some are on those.

Lorne, thanks for subscribing. I've still got a few to do but it gets harder to upload them because of the copyright laws and YouTube having to block them in seemingly random countries.

Don't show us live clips that have nothing to do with this b side.  Having said that, it's a good b side.  I love good b sides.  Yes we can hear a fair amount of actual piano on this one.  It's all good.

@April Harper Probably best you close your eyes to the rest of my videos then :-(. Keep your ears open though, there are some good Squeeze b-sides on my channel.
