Very early on, Stéphane was fascinated by different kinds of music, listening to pop, rock and new wave. The real trigger happened in the late 80s, when he discovered house. One day in 1997 in Paris, when he was already a fairly famous DJ, he met up with Jean-Louis Costes, who asked him to mix music at his hotel restaurant. Very soon they had the idea of a compilation which could spread worldwide the spirit of the Hôtel Costes, this mythic glamorous place. The first compilation quickly became an undeniable reference. Over a dozen more successful and intense compilations followed.
Then he was asked to deejay everywhere in the world by haute couture designers such as Gucci, actresses like Cameron Diaz, and eventually remixed "What It Feels Like for a Girl" for Madonna… Yet Stéphane Pompougnac is not only a DJ - he is also an accomplished musician, composing and producing his own songs, which he proved in 2003 with the release of his first album Living On The Edge that featured several talented artists, notably Michael Stipe from REM. Today, Stéphane Pompougnac remains one of the most recognized DJs in the world.
Pompougnac released his second album Hello Mademoiselle in early 2006 after his eighth Hôtel Costes compilation.

Close to My Fire
Stéphane Pompougnac Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
(CHORUS:)
Strike a match and set me on fire
Watch it burn and my flames gettin' higher
You light me up, sweet 'ole desire
So won't you come, close to my fire
Yeah yeah - Yeah yeah
Yeah yeah - yeah yeah
Baby it's cold
When you're gone
Don't make me wait
Wait too long
Whenever you're near
I'm high on this fever
You're making me weak
Oh I'm a believer
So
(CHORUS:)
Strike a match and set me on fire
Watch it burn and my flames gettin' higher
You light me up, sweet 'ole desire
So won't you come, close to my fire
Yeah yeah - Yeah yeah
Yeah yeah - yeah yeah
(VERSE:)
Boy you are my
Tempting delusion
You're meltin' it down
My resolution
I can't escape
Can't say I'm trying
You say my name
... oh I can't hide it
So come on sugar
Don't slow it down
I won't stop craving
'Til you come around
You can't deny it
You're right here at home
The embers are waitin'
You know I want you to
CHORUS
Ain't no need to tell me boy
Ain't no need to tell me boy
Because I know
CHORUS
The song "Close to My Fire" by Stéphane Pompougnac talks about the burning desire for someone who is not around. The chorus's metaphorical language creates a strong visual representation of how much the singer wants the person they're singing about, and it shows their desperation to be close to them. The singer compares their desire to a fire, which gets higher every time the other person is near. They also can't help but feel weak and lost when the person is not around.
In the second verse, the singer refers to the person they desire as a "tempting delusion," which means someone who is too good to be true. The singer is aware that they might be just an illusion created by their strong emotions, but they also can't deny that they want them. They acknowledge that they're unable to escape their desires or their mind and say that they won't stop craving until the other person comes around.
Overall, the song portrays how a strong attraction can take over someone's emotions, leaving them feeling powerless and vulnerable. The lyrics beautifully display how the desire for someone can become a physical sensation and how it can be hard to overcome.
