Elevate
St. Lucia Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I don't know how you do it
But somehow you always will be there
And there's nothing to it
But somehow you always understand
There's no way to wake up now
Too many times I saw you cry
And no one can make up it
You wait for the sun to make the sky

And no one elevates you, elevates you now
And no one's gonna take you, gonna take you there

All this time, never thought I would see you smile
Know that I and I know that I see you now
But I know I can't walk in
Never go back again
No matter how, tonight I'll never go back, never go back again

And no one elevates you, elevates you now
And no one's gonna take you, gonna take you there
And no one elevates you, elevates you now
And no one's gonna take you, gonna take you there

And no one elevates you, elevates you now
And no one's gonna take you, gonna take you there

And no one elevates you, elevates you now
And no one's gonna take you, gonna take you there

Hold on to your heart

Hold on to your heart

Hold on to your heart

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to St. Lucia's song Elevate talk about the power of a supportive presence in one's life. The singer admires someone who is always there for them, understanding and comforting them in times of need. The song speaks about the struggles of life, referencing moments when the singer has seen this person cry, but also recognizing that they always wait for the sun to come out, representing hope and the possibility of a better day. The chorus repeats the idea of no one else being able to elevate or take this person away from their troubles, cementing their importance in the singer's life.

The second verse of the song takes a more introspective turn, acknowledging the singer's own limitations in being there for this person in a reciprocal way, but also expressing gratitude for being able to witness that person smile. The line "I know I can't walk in, never go back again" suggests that the singer may have had their own struggles in the past, and while they cannot fully understand the other person's experience, they want to be a source of strength for them going forward.

Overall, the song is a tribute to the power of human connection, the importance of being there for each other during difficult times, and the hope that things can get better. The repetition of the chorus reinforces the idea that this person is truly special to the singer, and that no one else could fill their place in their life.
