Clark joined Sufjan Stevens' touring band in 2006, bringing with her a tour EP entitled Paris Is Burning. It contains three tracks, including a cover version of Jackson Browne's These Days.
Clark released her début album, Marry Me, 10 July 2007 on Beggars Banquet Records. Named after a line from the cult-hit television show Arrested Development, the LP features appearances from drummer Brian Teasley (Man or Astro-man?, The Polyphonic Spree), Mike Garson (David Bowie's longtime pianist), and horn player Louis Schwadron (The Polyphonic Spree).
In 2008 Clark was nominated for three PLUG Independent Music Awards: New Artist of the Year, Female Artist of the Year, and Music Video of the Year, and on 6 March 2008, she won the Female Artist of the Year award.
Her second album for 4AD, entitled Actor, was released on 5 May 2009. It was written entirely by Clark and produced by Clark and John Congleton of The Paper Chase.
The Strange Mercy Songfacts reports that Clark wrote her third album in Seattle. She decamped to the Northwestern city to escape from the information overload she was experiencing at home and recorded Strange Mercy in a studio provided by Death Cab For Cutie drummer Jason McGerr. The album was released by 4AD on September 12, 2011 and peaked at #19 on the Billboard 200, making it her first Top 20 LP.

All My Stars Aligned
St. Vincent Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
My amulets, my charms
I set all my false alarms
So I'll be someone
Who won't be forgotten
I've got a question
And you've got the answer
Smile to keep the sky from falling down down down down
Collect the love that I've been given
Build a nest for us to sleep in here
You know it's real
I check my palms
The cracks in teh sidewalk
My visions and my dreams
I cross all my fingers
That you'll be someone
That won't be forgotten
What was your question
I've got the answer
I do a dance to make the rain come
Smile to keep the sky from falling down down down down
Collect the love that I've been given
Build a nest for us to sleep in here
You know it's real
There are no signs
There are no stars aligned
No amulets not a charm
To bring you back to my arms
There's just this human heart
That's built with this human flaw
What was your question
Love is the answer
I do a dance to make the rain come
Smile to keep the sky from falling down down down down
Collect the love that I've been given
Build a nest for us to sleep in here
You know it's real
In St. Vincent's song All My Stars Aligned, the lyrics portray a sense of hopefulness and determination to be remembered and not forgotten. The singer sets "false alarms" and collects "amulets" and "charms," representing their attempts to prepare and protect themselves from being lost and forgotten. The lyrics speak of doing various actions such as dancing to make the rain come, smiling to keep the sky up, and collecting love to make a nest for the singer and their loved one to sleep in together. Through these actions, the singer is building a life they can be happy with and a memory of themselves that won't be easily forgotten.
However, the song ends on a slightly more bittersweet note. The singer reflects on their internal human flaws and how sometimes there are no guarantees to bring their loved one back, sometimes only love can conquer all. The song as a whole can be interpreted as an ode to living fully in the moment and doing everything possible to create happiness, while also acknowledging the unpredictable and uncontrollable nature of life.
