And I saw you with a scent on your hands
Going out to get you something
Oh honey I was there in the dark where you lay
And I saw you with a scent on your hands
Going out to get you something
Bodies like wrecking balls fuck, fuck with dynamite
The lyrics to St. Vincent's song "The Sequel" paint a vivid picture of a person who is caught red-handed in an affair. The singer talk directly to the cheater, and reveals that they were there the whole time, watching and observing their every move. The mention of a scent on the cheater's hands suggest that they were holding someone else, perhaps the person they are cheating with. The repetition of these lines underscores the singer's disbelief and sadness at the situation, and effectively emphasizes the gravity of the situation.
The second half of the lyrics focus on the chaotic life that the cheater is leading, with references to "one, two, three flight apartment streetside" and "bodies like wrecking balls." The former suggests a frenzied existence filled with flights and apartments, while the latter evokes a sense of destruction and danger. The repetition of the phrase "fuck, fuck with dynamite" aptly conveys the chaotic and explosive nature of the cheater's existence. As a whole, the lyrics to "The Sequel" offer a poignant commentary on the destructive effects of infidelity and the emotional toll it can take on those involved.
