Dark World
St. Vitus Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I just took a trip
Into a bottomless well
Face to face with the madness
That's been cracking my shell
All around me, decay
Burning in my eyes
I can see no way
To save our lives

I hear little children
Begging for relief
I hear all of us say
Don't even bother me
Tomorrow it could be you
Tomorrow it could be me
We're all in the same slimy boat
And we're all going to sink

It's a dark world
A dark world
It's a dark world

Digging through the waste
Of a tortured land
You'll meet others, like you
The last trace of man
Everybody's crying
And everybody screams
You will turn your head and say
I only care about me

It's a dark world
A dark world
It's a dark world
It's a dark world

A dark world
It's a dark world

Overall Meaning

The song "Dark World" by St. Vitus paints a bleak picture of society in its lyrics. The singer describes diving into a bottomless well, a metaphor for descending into madness, and seeing the decay of the world surrounding them. They then hear the cries of children and people begging for relief, but no one seems to care. The song suggests that everyone is too focused on their own needs and desires to help one another, leading to the inevitable downfall of humanity.

The imagery in the song is striking and the lyrics are very thought-provoking. The idea of a dark, decaying world that is beyond saving is a powerful one, and St. Vitus captures it well in their song. The use of repetition in the chorus ("It's a dark world") emphasizes the hopelessness of the situation, and the final lines of the song ("It's a dark world") drive home the idea that there is no escape from this bleak reality.

Overall, "Dark World" is a haunting track that leaves a lasting impact on the listener. It's a reminder of the importance of compassion and community, and a warning of what can happen when we lose sight of those values.

Doom Metal.
You are at home and you feel very thirsty. Although it is very dark, stormy and rainy out there, you decide to take a long walk to your favourite pub. You face the storm and you fight yourself through the hopelessness of darkness, storm and rain, while your thirst grows relentlessly.
Wet to the bone, you finally reach your destination.
And there, at the end of your journey, you find this damn pub closed.

I love this music.
