Day In Day Out
Stacey Kent Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
That same old voodoo follows me about
That same old pounding in my heart, whenever I think of you
And baby I think of you
Day in and day out
Day out, day in
I needn't tell you how my days begin
One possibility in view
That possibility of maybe seeing you
Come rain, come shine
I see you and to me the day is fine
Then I kiss your lips, and the pounding becomes
The oceans roar, a thousand drums
Cant you see its love, can there be any doubt
When there it is, day in, day out
The lyrics of Stacey Kent's "Day In Day Out" convey the experience of an individual who is overwhelmed by their love for someone. They are constantly plagued by "that same old voodoo," the incessant pounding in their heart whenever they think about the person they love. The repetition of "day in, day out" illustrates the emotional torment that this love causes - it is a ubiquitous presence that can't be shaken.
The lyrics also depict the hope and anticipation that this love brings. The singer awakens with a "tingle" in the morning, with the possibility of seeing their loved one providing the day's sole purpose. When they do get to see their love interest, it transforms the day into one filled with joy and happiness. The lines "Then I kiss your lips, and the pounding becomes The oceans roar, a thousand drums" suggest that the singer is overwhelmed by the intensity of their emotions.
Overall, the lyrics suggest that love can be both a source of great pain and a great joy. It is an all-consuming feeling that can become an obsession for some.
