Unique in that that they solely cover music from the original NES console, they differ also from their video game cover band counterparts by incorporating original songs, as inspired by these very NES games.

Initially a studio effort, Stage 3-1 has assembled a live band due to popular request. Live performances are planned for the summer of 2007.

Joining original members Weston Sagle and Kevin Beswick was Steven Sagle, a video game enthusiast and NES connoisseur. To achieve the full NES metal sound, Brian Mikkila and Julian Ursano were incorporated to round out the live band.

The full-length album LEVEL UP!, featuring reinvented old favourites and originals, will be released sometime in late 2007. The album is currently in progress.

I remember hearing this song on a Sonic rom hack, and basically they remix the theme and I fell in love with the song. I then years ago found out it was from a Castlevania theme, but I could never find it.

dale gend It's pretty much possible to get all kinds of old soundtracks used, if you're a collector and really care about owning it. I even see two copies on Ebay right now, one of which is still sealed.. Also, the Castlavania Box with all soundtracks from the series was released few years back. That one's more expensive though.

To each their own, I say. I made it easy to compare the different versions because I find it pretty interesting. :) Some I like more with the VRC6, some I don't... But for clarification, there is no FM synthesis in the Japanese version. It has 2 additional pulse waves (with more duty cycles available), and 1 sawtooth wave.

Listen to this version for the Famicom, called Akumajo Densetsu, it is BADASS, due to an extra sound card, allowing it to sound better, only Japan did this, but Nintendo of America was against it. What a shame.

@binkinater The names come from the soundtest (hold down A + B + Select, then hit start, at the title screen), so they should all be correct. I passed on naming them "Level 1", "Level 2", etc, because that depends on the path you take.

This one's recycled from the original Castlevania. It's called "Wicked Child". But yeah, It's awesome.

This game has plenty of new tracks though. After CV3, Konami mostly just recycled them over and over. (exception being Symphony of the Night...) By the way, if you haven't played this game, it's working picking up an NES and buying it. It's even more fun than the original, and you can unlock two more characters!
