More of a folk-rock band than a psychedelic band, Stained Glass started out in 1964 playing Beatles covers. They performed in and around their native San Jose until an A & R man from RCA signed them to the label later that year. Of the multiple singles they recorded, the first two were a mixture of folk and Merseybeat, and met with some local success. The best was "We Got A Long Way To Go", a driving rock song with immediate appeal, which was a big hit in San Jose during April of 1967. They also had moderate success with a cover of a Beatle tune, "If I Needed Someone" which justified a short tour on the east coast.
They moved to Capitol in the Spring of 1968, issuing three singles and two albums. Of the six 45 sides on Capitol only Lady In Lace, written by McPherson, is non-LP. The tune was backed by "Soap and Turkey" written by Rominger. Both albums were quite highly rated, but failed to make much impact and the band disbanded in 1970, although McPherson went on the play with Copperhead.

You're the one that I'd be thinking of
If I needed someone
If I had some more time to spend
Then I guess I'd be with you my friend
If I needed someone
Had you come some other day
But you see now I'm too much in love
Carve your number on my wall
And maybe you will get a call from me
If I needed someone
Ah, ah, ah, ah
If I had some more time to spend
Then I guess I'd be with you my friend
If I needed someone
Had you come some other day
Then it might not have been like this
But you see now I'm too much in love
Carve your number on my wall
And maybe you will get a call from me
If I needed someone
Ah, ah
"If I Needed Someone" by Stained Glass is a classic love song that explores the idea of finding the right person to love. The opening line of the song, "If I needed someone to love, you're the one that I'd be thinking of," sets the tone for the rest of the song. The song talks about how the singer would be with the person if they had more time to spend, and how they are now too much in love to consider anyone else. The chorus is repeated twice, emphasizing the importance of the person they are singing about.
The lyric "Had you come some other day, then it might not have been like this" suggests that the timing of the relationship is significant. In other words, if the two had met under different circumstances, the relationship may have turned out differently. It's clear that the singer is infatuated with the person they are singing about and is hoping that the other person feels the same way. The line "Carve your number on my wall and maybe you will get a call from me" shows how the singer is willing to take the risk of reaching out to the person they love.
Overall, "If I Needed Someone" is a beautiful and heartfelt song that captures the longing and hope that comes with falling in love. The lyrics are simple, yet powerful, and the melody is catchy and memorable. It's a song that many people can relate to and has stood the test of time since its release in the 1960s.
