Spring Is Here
Stan Getz Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Spring is here! Why doesn't my heart go dancing?
Spring is here! Why isn't the waltz entrancing?
No desire, no ambition leads me
Maybe it's because nobody needs me
Spring is here! Why doesn't the breeze delight me?
Stars appear, why doesn't the night invite me?
Maybe it's because nobody loves me
Spring is here I hear

Spring is here! Why doesn't my heart go dancing?
Spring is here! Why isn't the waltz entrancing?
No desire, no ambition leads me
Maybe it's because nobody needs me
Spring is here! Why doesn't the breeze delight me?
Stars appear, why doesn't the night invite me?

Maybe it's because nobody loves me
Spring is here I hear

Overall Meaning

In Stan Getz's song, "Spring Is Here," the lyrics express the feeling of the arrival of spring and the joyous mood it brings. However, the singer of the song seems to be experiencing a sense of melancholy, as portrayed in the lyrics, "Spring is here! Why doesn't my heart go dancing?" Despite the arrival of spring, the singer seems to lack excitement and happiness as they find no reason to feel joy.

The lyrics further express the lack of motivation and ambition, as the singer states, "No desire, no ambition leads me, maybe it's because nobody needs me." The singer seems to feel unimportant and unwanted, causing them to lack the enthusiasm for life. The arrival of spring and the beauty it brings cannot seem to fill the void that the singer feels inside.

The chorus repeats the same lyrics, adding to the sense of repetition, as if the singer is stuck in a continuous cycle of emptiness. The use of rhetorical questions encourages the listener to think deeper about the meaning behind the song and the underlying message that it conveys.

Overall, "Spring Is Here" explores the contrast between the beauty of spring and the inner turmoil that some individuals may feel, highlighting the importance of human connection and the impact it has on our emotions.

So beautifully said, my sentiments exactly. I was fortunate to see him play in a very small bar in Toronto ,47 years ago, what a treat.

Lo sabemos, para vivirlo hay que sentirlo y para sentirlo hay que vivirlo, la música inmortal nos resplandece en el alma...

Must have been the 25th anniversary concert of Stan and Lou's "East of the sun - the West Coast sessions", one of the prime recordings of Stan and jazz in general, as they play tunes from those recording dates
