Born in Birmingham, Myers went to the prestigious King Edward's High School in Edgbaston as a teenager, a suburb of Birmingham. He is related to the popular musician Andrew Myers from Nettleham Lincolnshire.
He is indisputably best known for Cavatina, an evocative guitar piece that served as the signature theme for Michael Cimino's 1978 film The Deer Hunter, and for which Myers won the Ivor Novello Award. A somewhat different version of this work, performed by John Williams, had appeared in The Walking Stick. And yet another version had lyrics added. Cleo Lane and Iris Williams between them, in separate recordings as `He Was Beautiful` helped to make Cavatina become even more popular. (1970). The piece is far more difficult to play than it looks or sounds. Myers also wrote incidental music for a 1964 serial in the television series Doctor Who.
During the 1980s, Myers worked frequently with director Stephen Frears. His score for Prick Up Your Ears (1987) won him a "Best Artistic Contribution" award at the Cannes Film Festival.
Myers died of cancer in 1993.

Well, you know, I just Never KNEW that James Fenimore Cooper's early 1800s novel "Deerslayer", which I read as a boy, had been made into a movie! 😲

But, in my personal opinion, "The Deer Hunter" was as good as any I have seen about our unpleasant time in RVN. I don't remember it ever being promoted as a documentary, any more than were Oliver Stone's "Platoon" , "Full Metal Jacket", or any others. Certainly NOT that awful "Apocalypse Now"! Although I think we can both agree that "We Were Soldiers" was within a cat's whisker or 100% accurate.
At least Oliver WAS there, with the 2/27th "Wolfhounds" at Cu Chi in '67 (I just may have flown him on my Huey), so it is likely that many of the events in his film were written from personal experiences or ones he knew about first-hand.
But for you to say that "The Deer Hunter" "sucked" is strictly your personal opinion... not one shared by many, and Certainly Not one based on any facts. And please spare me any "boots on the ground" lectures just because I was "only" a 67N crew chief/door gunner rather than (Wait for it!...) an "Eleven Bravo!". Our "little friends" out there were trying their best to kill us ALL, and never, far as I know, stopped to ask anyone about their MOS before opening fire. They certainly never asked ME! And we All lost buddies, sometimes without a trace... And we All lost a part of ourselves, and to this day have 'Nam right over our shoulders, every waking moment.

I first watched this great movie in 1979 in Columbus Ohio, where I went to get my master’s degree. I could sense the whole theater responded to the various scenes in the movie. It was the most emotional experience for me in a theater. I met a lot of Vietnam veterans in 1979 and the years following the release of this legendary movie. This song was a perfect fit for the sad movie. War is hell! It destroys so many lives and families in so many ways. Deer Hunter is one of a kind and holds a dry special place in many people’s hearts dearly. They don’t make those kind of movies anymore. They can’t find the same kind of actors in this day and age. It’s a different world now. Just like the best music and bands were found in the 1960s-1970s．How I miss the good old days when life was simple, and music was great.

Hi, i egrre with u the life whas more simpel in thhe 60-70-80 in my piont of vue, but u american must have a hel over there when u get in war in viet and kongo Korea, i living in Sweden and i grow up here, i reed and fallow almust everythings on news in that time bec of al problem u have , segreration and war and rich and poor in US. but verry good movie makes in that time and is now a nostalgic ti get back to the old days and MAKE GOOD movie again i think, the days movie is nothing to see in my point of vue,

I came back from Vietnam in late 1969. My dad, whom I never really got to know because he always worked as did all of us kids, died in late in early 1970. He was only 48. This movie came out and about 6 of us guys went to see it one afternoon at a local theater. Never has anything ever hit me so hard. Even now.....I just had to stop typing because my emotions overwhelm me and the tears are falling once again....... If you're a man you know how hard it is not to cry in front of other men, but I sobbed that day. I wasn't ashamed or embarrassed, I missed my dad. My life has never been the same since.... I am now 72 years old and the pain is still there. I look forward to our reunion one day in the not to distant future in heaven.

My older brother served as a Navy medic during Vietnam. He loved this song. He died in 2013. Miss you Dave..... tears well up when I hear this most beautiful song.
