Born in Birmingham, Myers went to the prestigious King Edward's High School in Edgbaston as a teenager, a suburb of Birmingham. He is related to the popular musician Andrew Myers from Nettleham Lincolnshire.
He is indisputably best known for Cavatina, an evocative guitar piece that served as the signature theme for Michael Cimino's 1978 film The Deer Hunter, and for which Myers won the Ivor Novello Award. A somewhat different version of this work, performed by John Williams, had appeared in The Walking Stick. And yet another version had lyrics added. Cleo Lane and Iris Williams between them, in separate recordings as `He Was Beautiful` helped to make Cavatina become even more popular. (1970). The piece is far more difficult to play than it looks or sounds. Myers also wrote incidental music for a 1964 serial in the television series Doctor Who.
During the 1980s, Myers worked frequently with director Stephen Frears. His score for Prick Up Your Ears (1987) won him a "Best Artistic Contribution" award at the Cannes Film Festival.
Myers died of cancer in 1993.

YES!!!! I have this soundtrack! Loved the miniseries. It's my favorite Ray Bradbury book! Back in the 90s I actually wrote him a fan letter and he replied! I only asked for an autograph on a blank notecard that I sent. He wrote a lovely note to me, signed a book jacket of this book, a signed photo of himself, plus he drew a cartoon of himself on the large envelope he sent back to me! I couldn't believe that he was so nice to me, just a fan who asked for a simple autograph. Thank you Soundtrack Fred! You made this suite simply beautiful! 🥰

@lpdog82
wonderful miniseries, the saddest part of the whole show was seeing earth thru the viewer being destroyed, the ending was so magical when hudson and the martian conversed with eachother

The movie was okay, but the fantastic score by Stanley Myers was the thing I remembered most, especially the talk Hudson had with the Martian at the end really tugs at the heartstrings,majestic , sad and Erie too.

"The Martian Chronicles" (1980) was a mini-series in three parts, written by legendary author Ray Bradbury and starring Rock Hudson, among others.
The story about mankind discovering Mars (and its inhabitants) was done vizually and musically great for its time, regarding a production for TV.
Speaking of music: The score by Stanley Myers remained well known among sci-fi enthusiasts with a great mix of orchestral and synthetic sounds. Especially his pieces for the landscapes of the red planet are otherworldly good. Enjoy!

Every time this miniseries would show on tv I would get excited when I was a kid. I've just lost both of my parents and its a tough time for me right now, but this music takes me back to those wonderful times as a kid growing up with them. Love you mom and dad.
