Last Train Home
Star Ryan Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You haven't changed.
Stand in the light,
I need to see you,
Uncover my eyes.

The tears coming down,
Making lines on your face.
One for each year, now
That you've been away.

We were only kids,
We ran like water.
Your dad said,
Stay away from my daughter.
The sun was coming down when I said,
Can't you just believe?

And if you wait for me,
I'll be the light in the dark if you lose your way.
And if you wait for me,
I'll be your voice when you don't know what to say.
I'll be your shelter,
I'll be your fate.
I'll be forever,
Wait for me.

I'll be the last train,
I'll be the last train home.

You were a storm,
It blew us away.
I wouldn't leave you,
But you couldn't stay.

We were only kids,
We ran like water.
Your dad said,
Stay away from my daughter.
The sun was coming down when I said,
Can't you just believe?

And if you wait for me,
I'll be the light in the dark if you lose your way.
And if you wait for me,
I'll be your voice when you don't know what to say.
I'll be your shelter,
I'll be your fate.
I'll be forever,
Wait for me.

I'll be the last train,
I'll be the last train home.

We were only kids,
We ran like water.
I told your dad,
I love your daughter.
The sun was coming down when I said,
Hallie just believe.

And if you wait for me,
I'll be the light in the dark if you lose your way.
And if you wait for me,
I'll be your voice when you don't know what to say.
I'll be your shelter,
I'll be your fate.
I'll be forever,
Wait for me.

I'll be the last train,
I'll be the last train,
Hold on to love,
And wait for me.

I'll be the last train,
I'll be the last train home.

I'll be the last train,
I'll be your last train home.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Last Train Home" by Star Ryan seem to talk about a story of two young lovers who got separated and drifted apart from each other through the years, only to reunite once again. The song is filled with nostalgia, memories, and promises of companionship. The singer tells his lover to stand in the light so he can see her clearly, as if he hasn't seen her in a long time. He talks about the tears rolling down her face and the lines forming on her face for every year that they were separated. Despite the separation, the singer promises to be there for his lover, to be her light in the dark, her voice when she doesn't know what to say, and her shelter and fate. He says that he will be the last train home, a symbol of someone who will guide her safely back to where she belongs.

The first few lines of the song are highly emotional, indicating a sense of familiarity that still exists between the two, despite the long years of separation. The tears on the girl's face are symbolic of the pain caused by the separation, and the promise of togetherness is the comfort that the singer is offering. The song seems to have an underlying theme of the fulfillment of promises made, as the singer reminds the girl about the promise he made to her father about loving her. This indicates that there has been a long-standing history between the two and that the promises made were kept until the end. Despite the ups and downs, the singer is willing to be the last train home, someone who will guide the girl back to where she truly belongs.

@KristanTilley

I've been a fan of Ryan's since he was on the RockStar SuperNova tv show several years ago. He was phenomenal. If you watch the video "Losing My Religion" you can even see the other contestants appear to be astounded by him. I was very fortunate to be able to see him in a very personal concert setting in Greensboro, NC last winter and met him personally. His voice is even more amazing live. His personality is as amazing as his voice. Ryan is a super talented artist with a very humbling persona.
