Isabella of Castile
Starfucker Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I know I should go
But I want to stay here with you
In this room, I can tell
You'll never be all mine

Never mine
Ok
I know you have to go
But I want to keep you to myself

Like a dream, I can tell
You'll never be all mine

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Starfucker's song "Isabella of Castile" convey a sense of longing and desire for someone who may never fully belong to the singer. The first stanza begins with the singer acknowledging that they should leave, but they want to stay in the same room with their love interest. The singer can feel that they'll never fully belong to this person, and ends the stanza with a resigned "never mine." The second stanza echoes this sentiment, with the singer acknowledging that their love interest has to leave, but they wish they could keep them to themselves like a dream. The use of "dream" in this stanza emphasizes the fleeting and unreal nature of the relationship - it is not concrete or fully realized.

Throughout the song, the singer seems to be grappling with the idea that love can be unrequited, or that a person cannot fully have another person. The song's title references Isabella of Castile, a queen who lived in the 15th and 16th centuries and was known for her political savvy and strong personality. It's unclear how Isabella relates to the song's theme of desire and longing, but it's possible that the historical figure represents a kind of unattainable ideal, much like the love interest in the lyrics.

Overall, "Isabella of Castile" is a song that explores the complicated emotions that can come with romantic desire, namely the realization that another person may never fully belong to us. Through its simple yet evocative lyrics, the song creates a sense of yearning and longing that is sure to resonate with many listeners.

I just ended a budding relationship.
It was my first one in years. I actually opened up. I put aside all insecurities built from the previous one.
She ghosted me for days.
In the end the insecurities got the best of me.

My own thoughts ate away at me. I didn't want to lose her, but I was miserable.
So we parted ways before it got serious.

Does it hurt?
Surprisingly, yes.

She wasn't wanting anything serious, but she was a good match for me.
Good music taste. Brilliant mind.
Adorable.

But she will never be all mine.

Despite the short amount of time spent, it still hurts.
I had hope I could love again.

To you, my own Isabella, I will miss you, and hope to salvage a friendship ✌️

I went to 2 strfkr concerts in 2017. One in Santa Ana, one in Santa Cruz. It was unreal.

Towards the end of the concert, they all leave stage with the intro to this song playing in a loop. The crowd starts screaming "one more song, one more song". Then Strfkr comes back on stage, and when the beat of Isabella of Castille starts, it was the craziest chills I think I've ever had. Glass Animals on April 22nd and I am excited for that. Strfkr rules.

I too saw them twice in CA in 2017, and the 2nd show had this ending. I thought the show was done. I wanted to beat the merch table rush and I was just about to buy a new shirt when they came back and began. I feel bad for the merch guy because I screamed incoherently and ran back off to the stage. Was the greatest surprise and greatest ending.
