Silver Sportscar
Starlet Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It happens a lot before summer
Now I'm drinking on my own
I am miserable and alone

9 10 11 12 13 14 15
If I had a silver sportscar
If I had a driver's license
I'd be by your side in a second
By your side I'd sit and wait
In the western sunny sand
By your side I'd sit and wait
Will you ever make a move?
If I had a silver sportscar
I would head for Los angeles
If I had a driver's license
I'd be by your side in a second
I'd be by your side in a second
I'd be by your side in a second
The lyrics of Starlet’s song Silver Sportscar convey a sense of longing and loneliness after a past fling or relationship has ended. The opening lines, “Me and my girl we had a blast, It happens a lot before summer,” suggest a fun-filled time that has come to an end. The singer is now alone and isolated, drinking and feeling miserable. The numbers counting up to 15 that follow this opening imply that the singer is dwelling on the passage of time and perhaps lamenting the fact that things have changed.
The chorus, “If I had a silver sportscar, I would head for Los Angeles. If I had a driver's license, I'd be by your side in a second,” reveals the central theme of the song: the singer’s desire to reconnect with someone. The imagery of the silver sportscar and the destination of Los Angeles suggest escape and adventure, but ultimately the focus is on being reunited with the person the singer misses. The repeated line, “I’d be by your side in a second,” emphasizes the immediacy and intensity of this longing.
Overall, Silver Sportscar is a melancholic but evocative reflection on lost love and the desire for connection. The wistful tone is complemented by the simple but effective use of imagery and repetition.
