In early 2008 the band spent two months in the studio with Producer/Engineer Mike Brown (Papa Roach, Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, Garbage) capturing their innovative and gripping style. Influenced by bands such as Breaking Benjamin, Foo Fighters, Chevelle and Linkin Park, Static Cycle combines edgy guitar licks, insistent rhythms and vicious vocals to create a truly compelling sound. That sound, combined with their commanding stage presence and a dedication and quiet determination that few young bands possess, places Static Cycle at a pivotal point in their career.
Static Cycle is:
Jared Navarre - Vox & Rhythm Guitar
24 year old Navarre has been performing professionally on voice and guitar for 14 years. As the principal lyricist and melodic writer for the trio, Jared takes his job seriously. His vocal lines can go from smoldering to fiery in a flash, and his sophisticated use of dynamics to reel in the listener is a fresh sound in the contemporary rock scene. With his previous band Crail, he won the Rock Category at the 2004 annual Alaska Song of the Year contest and brought the house down at the concert that year.
Josh Witham - Lead Guitar
For more than half of his 28 years Witham has working toward the stylistic mastery he brings to the guitar parts of Static Cycle. Previously with the cult phenomenon Grain, his work in the Kansas and Alaska music scenes has not gone unnoticed. His edgy guitar lines can stand on their own and his understanding of space within a line gives Static Cycle the perfect blend of simplicity and complexity that completes their urgent sound.
Dennis Smith - Drums
Behind one set of drums or another for most of his 23 years, Smith is a versatile and accomplished rhythmist. A popular and much sought-after statewide player, he has played everything from metal to blues licks behind many of Alaska’s most successful bands. His syncretism of rock and hip-hop styles underpins and propels the rest of the sound and allows it to soar.

Power
Static Cycle Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Come to those
Who don′t expose
People that they love most
You told me
I could be
Anything
Clenched your fist
Broke my lip
You told me quit
Like I made you do this
I never knew
The abuse
Until I grew
Welcome to your reckoning
I'm gettin′ stronger
Watch what you say
'Cause I'm the future
You′re in my way
I can see it on your face
You give yourself away
′Cause you lost your power
Your power
Power
There's nothing you could say
You won′t get away
'Cause I′ve got the power
The power
Power
Now you feel
More like me
So beg and plead
Like you made me do this
You look surprised
Don't shut your eyes
Don′t feed me lies
I've already decided
'Cause I′m stronger
Fuck what you say
′Cause I'm the future
You′re in my way
I can see it on your face
You give yourself away
'Cause you lost your power
Your power
Power
There′s nothing you could say
You won't get away
′Cause I've got the power
The power
Power
I've dreamt of this day
That you would finally pay
Now I′ve got the power
I can see it on your face
You give yourself away
′Cause you lost your power
Your power
Power
There's nothing you could say
You won′t get away
'Cause I′ve got the power
The power
Power
The lyrics to Static Cycle's song "Power" convey a narrative of empowerment and liberation from an abusive relationship. The opening lines suggest that those who do not expose the people they love the most are the ones who eventually find better things in life. However, the tone quickly turns dark as the singer reveals the physical abuse they have endured, with their partner hitting them and telling them to quit, as if blaming them for the abuser's actions. The singer was unaware of the abuse until they grew older, which implies a sense of naivety or innocence.
As the song progresses, the narrative takes a shift towards the singer reclaiming their power and strength. They assert that they are getting stronger and becoming the future, while their abuser stands in their way. The lyrics express a desire to expose the abuser's true nature, as evidenced by the line "I can see it on your face, you give yourself away." The singer recognizes that the abuser has lost their power, while they themselves have found it.
In the final verse, the singer revels in the satisfaction of their abuser finally facing the consequences of their actions. The lyrics suggest that the singer's dream of their abuser paying for their actions has come true, leaving them with a newfound sense of power and control.
Overall, "Power" tells a story of resilience, transformation, and breaking free from an abusive relationship. It explores themes of self-empowerment, confronting one's abuser, and the realization that one has the strength to overcome and move forward.
