You walked up yesterday and you told me you were leavin'
Left a note sayin' momma won't be back
But you'll come back and I've got news for you dear
You won't have a home and that's a fact
Don't you come back on your knees asking my forgiveness
Don't you roll them eyes at me, tellin' me your sorry
It's too late babe, and it won't work this time
I've always been around, lord when you needed someone
I played the role 'til I knew each line by heart
But now it's time to change, won't you find another playmate
Someone who'll be glad to play the part
Don't you come back on your knees asking my forgiveness
Pack your bags and move on down the line
Don't you roll them eyes at me, tellin' me your sorry
It's too late babe, and it won't work this time
Don't you come back on your knees asking my forgiveness
Pack your bags and move on down the line
Don't you roll them eyes at me, tellin' me your sorry
It's too late babe, and it won't work this time
The lyrics to Station's song "Work" depict a situation in which the singer's partner has decided to leave, leaving a note stating that they won't be coming back. The singer has had enough of their partner's behavior and is unwilling to forgive them or take them back if they decide to come back on their knees asking for forgiveness. They express their frustration with their partner's behavior and make it clear that they won't be playing the role of their partner's playmate any longer.
The opening lines of the song set the tone for the rest of the lyrics, "You walked up yesterday and you told me you were leavin', Left a note sayin' momma won't be back". The singer is clearly hurt by their partner's decision to leave and the fact that they did it in such an impersonal way. When they state that their partner won't have a home to come back to, it shows that the singer is done with the toxic relationship and is ready to move on.
The chorus is repeated throughout the song to emphasize the singer's stance on the situation, "Don't you come back on your knees asking my forgiveness, Pack your bags and move on down the line, Don't you roll them eyes at me, tellin' me your sorry, It's too late babe, and it won't work this time." The singer won't be swayed by their partner's apologies and will no longer tolerate their behavior.
Overall, the lyrics of "Work" depict a story of a toxic and unhealthy relationship that the singer is ready to move on from. They won't be persuaded to change their mind and it's time for their partner to face the consequences of their actions.
