Pictures of Matchstick Men
Status Quo Lyrics

When I look up to the sky
I see your eyes, a funny kind of yellow

I rush home to bed, I sunk my head
I see your face underneath my pillow

I wake next morning, tired still yawning
See your face come peeking through my window

Pictures of matchstick men and you
Images of matchstick men and you
All I ever see is them and you

Windows echo your reflection
When I look in their direction gone

When will this haunting stop
Your face, it just won't leave me alone

Pictures of matchstick men and you
Images of matchstick men and you
All I ever see is them and you

You in the sky, you with the sky
You make me cry, your eyes

You in the sky, you with the sky
You make me cry, your eyes

meshen85 8 years ago Status Quo don't even belong in the same sentence as The Who

That's because QUO are a trillion times better than The Who and I like The Who.
Back in the mid 60's bands like The Who and The Kinks were Punks.
I respect their Punk attitude to society, which in the mid 1960's was very conservative.
In the very early 60's a band called The Beatles were tearing it up in Hamburg drinking rum n cokeand imbibing 'speed'. They were Punks wearing leather clothing until Brian Epstein put them in suits to make themsocially acceptable. After QUO's socially acceptable psychedelic period where they wore fancy frilly shirts, they went feral and adopted ' double denim ' clothing.
They stuck two fingers up at the 'establishment' and started playin filthy, dirty boogie n blues.
Ma Kellys and Dog of Two Head are two of the best albums ever made, by anyone.
A big thank you to "Down The Dustpipe" written by Australian Carl Groszman who was a member of 60s band
Steve And The Board.
Releasing DUSTPIPE in 1970 as a non-album single was a masterstroke as it kept the band's name in the consciousness of the public, so by the time QUO released PILEDRIVER on 15th December 1972, they exploded onto the mainstream charts.
STATUS QUO stand alone as a unique entity and don't belong in the same sentence as any other bands.
The most ardent music supporter is a QUO supporter.
We know who the greatest Rock band of all time is.
Only one Rock band had the best and greatest Rhythm Guitarist of all time.
RIP RICK PARFITT.

Gotta love the psychedelic sounds

Jim Aronson

To me, this is Status Quo's best song by far. When it came out in 1968 I couldn't get enough of it. Hoping for it to be played on the radio even though they just played it.
They had another great song many years later with Whatever You Want.

M Benyossef

I felt that way as a teenager 20 years later

lucalone

their best song and one of the best songs of all times!!!

in glorious MONO !

Christoffer Sjöheim

Much better than the stereo version!
The good side of Status Quo.

davitofarito

For sure...sometimes the mono version of a song is THE version. Check out the stereo version of (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction by the Stones...HORRIFIC!

Zane's Zodiac

I agree! I hate that they cut out the Wah Wah sound on those but thankfully it's posted here!

JebacTych Policjantow

just because it touches nerves that aren't usually touched in tandem with others doesn't mean it's psychedelic.

Christoffer Sjöheim

Rhizosphere Yes, also wah wah.

Rhizosphere

Christoffer Sjöheim Yeah, it has that great flanger effect, which is missing from the stereo version.
