In the mid 1970’s they also released records as an alter ego novelty band, Lieutenant Pigeon, and scored massive hits. Enough to keep funding the more serious side to their work as Stavely Makepeace.
Fletcher and Woodward cultivated an extraordinary sound through recording with home made equipment in the front room of Woodward’s mums house. Spending up to 15 hours a day running tape loops, sound effects, playing conventional and unconventional instruments, Stavely Makepeace occupy the same territory as Delia Derbyshire and Joe Meek in producing experimental pop music.

June 1969, i had just started working in a shoe factory in the North West of England and can remember this being on the radio at the time, most factories had radio's playing back then.
Of course Stavely Makepeace eventually became Lieutenant pigeon, who a few years later in 1973 i think it was, gave us the excellent "Mouldy old dough".
@WedgePee
Wow! This was an oddity on a REGGAE label (the one that gave us Israelites)!
@TheBim1987
