Mexico
Staves The Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Take it back or let me go
It's better if I tell you so
I hurt you once before and I will do it again
Everyone I know is gone and I don't even know myself
I'm saving up
To take a trip to Mexico
I heard it's the place to go
Oh I want to see the colours of another sky

Carry me home on your shoulders
Lower me onto my bed
Show me the night that I dreamed about before
Ohh ohh

Lover you may cause me tears
Drag me through the best of years
You never know
Many of the songs I wrote
Older than a year or two
But I love you so

Oh, carry me home on your shoulders
Lower me onto my bed
Show me the night that I dreamed about before

Carry me home on your shoulders
Lower me onto my bed
Show me the night that I dreamed about before
Ohh

Lover you may cause me tears

Drag me through the best of years
But I love you so

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Staves The's song "Mexico" tell the story of a person who is struggling with themselves and their past mistakes, as well as the people they love. The first verse reflects the singer's self-doubt and guilt, as they express a fear that they will hurt their loved one again because they don't even truly know themselves. They describe feeling isolated from everyone they know, which could suggest that they are going through some sort of personal turmoil or change. The singer then reveals that they are saving up to go to Mexico: a place that is often associated with escape and freedom. They express a desire to see the "colours of another sky," which could mean that they are looking for a change of scenery or a fresh start.

The chorus repeats the line "carry me home on your shoulders/ lower me onto my bed," suggesting that the singer is seeking comfort and support from someone they love. They express a longing to experience a night that they have dreamed about before, which could mean that they want to recreate a happy memory or find closure with someone. The second verse continues to express the singer's conflicting emotions: they acknowledge that their lover may hurt them, but they love them despite that fact. The song ends with the same chorus as before, suggesting that the singer's desire for comfort and support remains unfulfilled.

Overall, "Mexico" is a song that explores the complexity of human emotions, including guilt, self-doubt, and the power of love. It depicts a person who is searching for a way to escape their problems and find happiness, while also acknowledging the challenges that come with loving someone. Through its lyrics, the song invites listeners to reflect on their own experiences of love, loss, and personal growth.

I can't stop crying. This is too beautiful.
Thank you.

@NoelArdeur

I cried. What lovely voices. I often wished I had brothers or sisters so I could sing with them like this. I only have a brother, but he stays so consumed most of the time, it's not possible.

@MrVinnievroomvroom

hell i just wish i could sing. angels die when i sing

@NoelArdeur

Vin Fair Thankfully our voices aren't the only thing that can sing. Dance could be considered a form of singing with your body in rhythm. :D Find your form of song. :) No matter what form it takes. Otherwise just keep practicing.
