You Don't Want Me Anymore
Steel Breeze Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Undecided, don't know where to go

Don't know what I'm gonna do, oh
Uninvited, I'm knockin' at your door
And I would like to call on you, but
You don't want me anymore

So let me explain 'cause I don't want to lose you
You don't want me anymore
I tried so hard, so hard to please you
I remember, baby, on the day you left

You said you'd never understand, oh
But I keep thinkin' if you try real hard
You can give me just one more chance, 'cause
You don't want me anymore

So let me explain 'cause I don't want to lose you
You don't want me anymore
No
I know you're thinkin'

I'm just no good (I know you're thinkin')
But I won't give up
So give it up
You don't want me anymore

You don't want me anymore
You don't want me anymore
You don't want me anymore

Undecided, don't know where to go

Don't know what I'm gonna do
Uninvited, I'm knockin' at your door
Like I've a right to call on you
CHORUS

You don't want me anymore
Let me explain, 'cause I don't want to lose ya
You don't want me anymore
Tried so hard, so hard to please ya
I remember baby, on the day you left

You said you'd never understand
I keep thinkin' if you try real hard
You could give me just one more chance
REPEAT CHORUS

I know you're thinkin', I'm just no good (I know you're thinkin')

But you won't give up, givin' love
GUITAR BREAK

You don't want me anymore

You don't want me anymore
You don't want me anymore

Overall Meaning

The song "You Don't Want Me Anymore" by Steel Breeze explores an unresolved relationship wherein the persona tries to win back the affection of the other party. The lyrics show how the persona is still undecided, lost and desperate to reconnect. The song starts with the singer's confusion about their direction, which is likely related to their relationship, saying, "Undecided, don't know where to go, Don't know what I'm gonna do, oh." The repetition of "you don't want me anymore" throughout the chorus shows how the singer wants to clarify the reason behind their loved one's distance, although they could use subtle cues that hint at the source of the stress. Similarly, the lyrics also suggest that the persona has an idea of what went wrong in the relationship but still seeks the other party's response, saying, "I remember, baby, on the day you left you said you'd never understand, oh. But I keep thinkin' if you try real hard, you can give me just one more chance, 'cause you don't want me anymore."

The song depicts both the pain and frustration of a broken relationship and the desire to move on. It portrays an almost hopeful sentiment, with the persona hoping that they can turn the other party's feeling around. However, their desire to be liked by this person, no matter what it takes, remains a resounding theme throughout the tune.

My dad is the bassist. He’s the one with the lite afro. He’s still playing music today, at 64 years old. He’s VERY good at what he does.

I saw them open for a superstar act at Madison Square Garden when they had this fantastic hit. I remember really looking forward to seeing it played live. Can you ask your father if it was Rod Stewart? (see update below. I think it was actually Hall & Oates). I love reading comments when members of the family of the artist are posting. Any musician that manages to be in a band that has a Top 20 hit has to be talented. You should be very proud of your dad. This song should have gone top 10 easily. I thought it would go to #1. I constantly played it on my Walkman when going to work I still have it in my mp3 player from time to time. If I remember, Budweiser used the song for a national ad campaign.
