The Burden of Being Wonderful

should I, be allowed to be so hot
So many people without talent
yet I was born with all the magical gifts I got
The perfect body, the perfect face
it's like god's best work all in one place
But the haters hate perfection
It's a burden being wonderful like me
How in a world that's so imperfect
did I wind up with so much cool
Friends never stick around too long
they never feel like they belong
next to me they feel like a fool
I've got the grace of a dancer, a golden voice
people seem to hate me like I had a choice
Being this blessed is a lonely way to be
It's a burden being wonderful like me
Like me
So you say you wanna hang around
don't ever ask me to turn it down
I'm a diamond I'm gonna shine
compared to everyone else
I'm like a whole damn diamond mine
Oh yeah
I'm just a Maserati in a world of Kias
'genius' wouldn't describe any of my ideas
If I was born in 1453 Leonardo Da Vinci would be jealous of me
but a world of stevie wonders would never see
It's a burden being wonderful like me
The song "The Burden of Being Wonderful" by Steel Panther is a satire on narcissism and self-absorbed perfectionism with humorous lyrics that reveal how the singer sees himself as superior in the world full of mediocre individuals, who can never reach his level of greatness. He is burdened by his perfectionism, "the perfect body, the perfect face, golden voice, the grace of a dancer," but the world cannot accept or appreciate this excellence. The lyrics suggest that his beauty and talent have become an obstacle in building genuine relationships or being relatable to others. Despite all of this, he refuses to be ashamed of his magnificence because, without him, the world would be dull and mundane.
Steel Panther mocks the stereotype of a self-centered rock star in a playful and entertaining way. The band members, with their extravagant stage outfits and excessive makeup, embody the image of the glam rock era. The lyrics are full of paradoxes that exaggerate the singer's narcissism, and how he perceives himself as being much more special than the average person. The main idea of the song is that "it's a burden being wonderful like me," and this could be interpreted as a complaint or a boast: it all depends on the listener's point of view.

***** Your taste isn't that uncommon at all, dude. My timeline is this
2nd-5th grade: mostly hip-hop of the early/mid 2000s (Eminem, Kanye, Jay-Z)
5th-6th grade: started getting into early/mid 2000s punk and alternative, as well as getting into classic rock (Green Day, My Chem, Rise Against, Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, Pixies, The Who, Beatles, Zeppelin). Stopped listening to most hip-hop
6th-8th grade: started listening to older metal stemming from my interest in classic rock (Black Sabbath, Metallica, Maiden, Slayer, Mercyful Fate)
High school: started getting into more extreme metal as well as going back and listening to more old school hip-hop on the side (Black Dahlia Murder, Death, Mastodon, Meshuggah, Burzum, Wormrot, Ice-T, Biggie). Continued listening to classic rock too
College: came to the complete realization that limiting yourself to certain genres or writing off other genres is incredibly stupid and ignorant. I now listen to anything that strikes a chord with me regardless of genre, with metal and hip-hop being my two favorite areas. I try to listen to everything on the popularity spectrum, whether I'm bumping more underground artists like Artificial Brain, Bolzer, or Blu, or bumping huge artists like Kanye, Kendrick, or Jack White. I'm never going to know all the music that's out there, and I'll never profess to being an expert, but I'll be damned if I'm not gonna try and always hear something interesting that I haven't heard before.

This song is an instant confidence and self-esteem boost, and it's still has the funniness to it too. Steel Panther is amazing. Definitely my favorite band, above all I listen to.

I've been a Steel Panther fan for quite a while, but when they nail a line that strikes right to the heart of my personal experience, they nail it.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I must go design a flying machine. In a cave. With a box of scraps.
