Thank you for this really great video.
Lepa Radič was an unbelievably brave heroic girl.
She died for her fight against the barbaric regime both by the Nazis and the Ustasha.
My grandad fought with the partisans - not being a communist - bit fighting for the freedom of his country Yugoslavia. He actually told me the story about Lepa when I was a little child.
She was and still is a true heroine.
Not a lot of people even older had the courage that she showed.
Lepa you will never be forgotten ❤! xxx 🙏

She was a good friend of my grandfather,and they were the almost same age on the same battlefields. My grandfather was 1924,she was 1925 During early 1941 my grandfather was first who killed gendarme in his part of Bosnia,and thet village is first which resist against croatian ustashas and germans.Ustashe couldn't overcome a well-organized group that included my grandfather and some of my relatives. That village is called Tramosnja. The book says they prepared even earlier with a heavy machine gun that one of them smuggled out of France,and one regular machine gun. The rest were rifles, guns, and the rest were captured. Their resistance lasted several days. The ustashe called the Germans for the second day for support.Then they retreated and organized partisan units. Most of them weren't communists. Like my grandfather. Sorry about my bad English. Thank you for this story

Communists and no communists, women and men from everywhere had enough balls to stand up and fight and give their lives for their freedom, folks and country and should be respected, remembered and considered heros. The Russians suffered terrible losses of life to say the least and did a brilliant job against the nazis. Lot of people don't agree because they refuse to care for the atrocities comited by the nazis not only in Russia but all over.

Most of Partisans in Yugoslavia were Serbs.
Lots of muslims were in SS divisions or with Croatian Ustashe that were with the Nazis.
Civil war in Bosnia in 90ties brought to surface those old ghosts from WW2.

She was incredibly brave and when you are 17 you haven't tasted life to the full, you are perhaps more idealistic. Her idealism and willingness to defend those she loved should be admired. It is not neccessarily and automatically "exceptional" to feel this way, but Lepa represented a purer kind of love and honesty, which we all can aspire to.

Only the most evil regimes require the sort of sacrifice that Lepa made, but we must all fight smaller evils of our time with a similar dedication.

Of course, it was not so in practice. But, as much as we denigrate Communism today, this ideology was a bit of a "saviour", even for "the West" and capitalism. Certainly, communism embodied, in the minds of ordinary people, a just and admirable "protector" of the weak and of people's subsumed by Nazi racism.

Sometimes in life there are causes that are worth dying for. I think fighting the Nazis, both in the military or the Nazis resistance, was one of those causes. It was the deaths of brave young women like this that ultimately turned many people against the Nazis, and led to their downfall.

this is an idealistic but unrealistic approach. The fight against the Nazis was a decision by the governments of Britain, France and later the USA (Germany declared war on the USA, but it were the USA who started strategic offensive, which very likely the Nazis would never had done. As well the nazis had not planned to go into war with Britain or even that Britain declared war on then. Britain would never had declared alone war on Germany. It would have been suicidal and foolish in their own mindset.

In my family we are taught to face death well. My uncle died facing the enemy in the Philippines. We still talk about him. I hope that she will never be forgotten. She died well and without fear.

My Great Uncle was on a T-Class submarine used for transporting Human Chariots (small 2 man steerable torpedos) he was Chief Petty Officer and it had just sunk and italian ship , it was depth charged and was sunk it has never been found, My Great GrandMother had Two Boys and my Nan and his brother was killed in a motorcycle accident in Cambridgeshire my Nan survived her Mother by about 5 yrs she must have been broken loosin g both Boys in her lifetime

These stories need to be taught in all schools, not to be forgotten and/or dismissed.
Those ignoring history are doomed to repeat it.
I often wonder if I lost family members because of the Holocaust. My grandmother and great-grandmother left Poland early in her life. She would tell me how they came to America with very little but made the most of what they did have. She would tell me how scary it was, at seven years old, crossing the Atlantic Ocean, with waves coming up and knocking people - men, women and some children - overboard.
It's first hand stories, such as these, if your fortunate enough to have your grandparents, or great grandparents, here, to tell their life story.
Take a break from the electronic devices, and social media, and learn something about your family. Believe me, the regret you'll have is the regret that you didn't do it sooner because, when the Almighty calls on them to return home, the chapter of their story comes to an end.
Cherish your moments with your elders. Listen and hear about their hardships and how they overcame them because, when they're no longer here, it's too late.

Yet it still has a far higher crime rate than most of western Europe and many other countries. The US also has higher poverty levels than western Europe. The US model is not working for many of her citizens.

The Western Allied leaders in WWII in contrast were WWI veterans. They knew damn well how Post WWI should have been established. There are thousands and thousands of families across much of Europe which have terrible dark secrets from their past; grandfathers, great uncles, distant cousins etc who, as enlisted men, were involved in utterly atrocious behaviour during the Second World War. The men who carried out these sorts of activities later went on to have families and everybody learned never, ever to ask or speak about what their "daddy" did during the war. A totally silent collective generational trauma.
I got to know some people from the old East Germany several years ago and they said there's a similar undercurrent of collective trauma about atrocities carried out under the old regime and there's a rule that people must never, ever talk about the individuals (many still alive) that everybody knows were responsible.
Videos like this demonstrate that the study of much of twentieth century history in many parts of Europe can still be a very painful pursuit indeed for many of the families of both the victims and of the perpetrators.

My father turned 17 in the Marine Corps and fought in the South Pacific. It was a different time. Young people did not receive participation trophies. Most young people today in the US have no clue about hardship.

Yugoslavia has nothing to do with Baltic states. Yugoslavia is a Balkan state. And she never was involved with Battle on Neretva. She was active only in NW parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina, between mountains of Kozara and Grmech. She was captured and hanged in small town of Bosanska Krupa.

Truly brave lady..its hard to imagine just how awfull nazi torture would have been..except that it would have been extreme and frankly would break most people...my father used to say that a lot of the heroes who defied the nazis would have died alone and with no witnesses to their extreme bravery..I cant even imagine that sort of terror

No doubt. You can break it down any number of different ways but roughly 1,000 people an hour died in the course of WWII. Every single one of them had a story of some sort.
Most of those stories don't get told. The 15yo kid forced to fight for Germany, the cook on a freighter that got sunk.
Some have records that tell some of their story but millions don't even have that. The French resistance fighter that went out at night and was caught and never returned. No records, nobody to tell their story. Millions died that way.

they were partisans and partisans got this treatment. Partisans are irregular troops operating brave and in the same time cowardly behind the lines of the enemy. I say cowardly because the tactic was to strike not in the open but only when it was save to harm the ennemy from behind and unexpected and get alog wirh it. For this reason all armies of the world exected partisans. I have no sympathy for any of them. And international war order (geneva) has no sympathy for them either.

My grandfather volunteered to fight the nazis at 15, his brother had been killed at 19 fighting and he used his birth certificate , a different time. Still my heart goes out to this young woman and her bravery and she certainly was brave

sadly , the glorious Yugoslav partisans are now largely frowned upon where she lived. I seriously doubt anyone in her home town (let alone her homeland) knows who she was and what she did. the peoples of former Yugoslavia gave up on their heroic past and have now embraced traitors who fought side by side with the assholes who killed Lepa Radic.
