Breathless
Steelwing Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Skin tight leather suits you fine
I want to wear you like a trophy, want to make you mine
Forever is just a matter of time
High heeled strut-around heading down town
If passion is a crime we'll be doing our time together
You're as guilty as I am

Don't think for a second
That I would leave you here alone
I won't take your heart away
I'll just strip you to the bone
Leave you breathless

Come inside, taste the wine
I feel the shivers running down your precious little spine
Together at the end of the line
Lie down here and wipe your tears
Close your eyes and you will see all my intentions so clear
You're trembling, just let go all your fears

Don't think for a second
That I would leave alone tied to the floor
You know that I won't take your heart away

I'll just strip you to the bone
Leave you breathless

Overall Meaning

The song "Breathless" by the Swedish metal band Steelwing is a classic example of the genre's themes of sex, passion, and desire. In the first verse, the singer describes the object of his affections as someone he wants to possess, expressing his desire to make her his "trophy." He compares the inevitability of their relationship to a prison sentence, implying that they will be trapped in their desire for each other. The second verse takes a more intimate turn, with the singer inviting his lover to share in his pleasures, promising to show her his intentions "so clear." The chorus brings the song to its climax, promising to leave the listener "breathless" with desire.

One interpretation of these lyrics could be that they are a reflection on the thrill of sexual desire and the intense physical and emotional responses that come with it. The singer's desire for his partner is all-consuming and all-encompassing, and he promises to take her on a journey of sensual pleasure. However, there is a darker side to this interpretation as well - the idea that too much desire can be dangerous, and that the thrill of the chase can lead to a loss of control and even violence. The line "I'll just strip you to the bone" is particularly ominous in this context.

Just received my copy and hearing this for the first time as I type. Man, Solar Wind Riders is one of the best metal songs I've heard, and I've been listening since the old school were in their peak.

I have this theory......if its from Sweden; IT'S KILLER, period.   Now......this album is hard to get a line on, futuristic euro power metal riffage type stuff throughout and then this killer USA melodic metal (late 80's early 90's) song comes up smack in the middle of the album, very reminiscent of Firehouse (All She Wrote).  Listen, I love this kinda shit.....sure, its a generic riff and the lyrics are the cheese but its arranged great and it works especially with that monster hook/change at 1:11. And the vocals of this cat Riley are not your average 80's shit, most of the fuckers from that decade looked great but could not sing a damn note, especially the upper register stuff (a few exceptions to this are; Tony Harnell, Ted Pilot, Steve Grimmett, Tony Moore, James Neal, Rik Emmett, Carl Albert RIP, Sebastian Bach, Michael Kiske, Michael Sweet, CJ Snare, Mike Matijevic and the late great one and only Midnight JPMcD RIP).  I approve of this Steelwing effort, its a great fucking song.  \m/

I agree with all you said and love the list of awesome singers. Mid was the best.
Cheers from Sweden! (listen to Swedish Manimal, great vocals and band)

TheGrimSweaper Thanks man.  I am familiar with Manimal....they are great.  I will return the favor and suggest some 220 Volt for you (Eye To Eye album especially).  \m/

TheGrimSweaper

Suggest from the land I come from, you can do better. Suggest a band in the same style of old Crimson Glory with Mid-ish kind of vocals. A band that i just came over are Psychoprism and I love the band Worldview with the former singer of Sacred Warrior, and he still sounds great.
Cheers from Sweden!
