Stand and Deliver
Steep Canyon Rangers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I dug my share of treasure
Dug so deep they called it a crime
There might be pleasures I’ve never tasted
But I ain’t wasting no more time

Cause the furnace is burnin’ white-hot
And the hammer is swingin’ with the weight of the world
Now’s the time, like it or not
Stand and deliver, stand and deliver
That old pig’s so proud lyin’ in the mud
And Miss Chicken’s just happy, she ain’t been fried
The buzzards ain’t worried about no flood
But I’m not ready to be satisfied

I got a picture of Teddy Roosevelt
Hangin’ on the wall in my home on the range
But I felt a strange wind blowin’
Tellin’ me something is about to change

Some folks keep their heads in the clouds
Straining for the sound of the angels strumming

I’ve been known to pray out loud
But I ain’t waitin’ for the second coming

This is quite possibly the greatest bluegrass song I have heard! I put this song on loop and cranked the volume and jammed so hard to this over and over that my neighbors called the law and my stereo receiver overheated and melted. The law liked it too so I didn't even get in trouble. I can't get this song out of my head. I dreamed about it. So I decided I had to learn it on guitar. It took me a while to figure out all the chords and riffs, but I think I finally got it. Thanks for sharing this awesome tune. I hadn't heard of this band before, but I'm subscribed now!

@Rik Surako I was there too, laying behind the last row in the balcony in intense pain. I was gonna leave after the kids from Denison played. They started playing, sounding so good I thought your gonna be in pain no matter, stay. Best move I ever made! As far as Bluegrass is concerned! Stellar Show 😖🤯😬
