In Dutch speaking countries he is best known for his 1991 hit record ‘Papa’ - about a father/son relation. Since then he has made several albums and has also become quite popular amongst the Afrikaner population of South-Africa where he recorded several songs with crossovers between his European style and the tribal sounds of Southern Africa.
In 2004 he published as a poet. He is still performing and developing new material.
Is Dit Nu Later

In de pauze op het plein
We hadden grote dromen
Mama, mama,
Stef Bos's song "Is Dit Nu Later" is a reflective piece about the disillusionment that often accompanies coming of age. The lyrics describe the memory of playing hide-and-seek during recess and dreaming big dreams, and how they imagined their adult lives would be. However, as they got older they realized that life didn't turn out quite like they had hoped. They express frustration with the idea that they were promised that they could be anything they want, but now feel like their diploma is just a piece of paper filled with lies that doesn't actually mean anything. They persistently ask the titular and rhetorical question "Is this now later?", wondering how they got where they are and feeling lost in the chaos of it all. They long for the simplicity and security of childhood and ask their mother to turn on the light in the hallway, suggesting they need to feel protected and comforted.
The song addresses the complex emotions that accompany growing up – disappointment, disillusionment, frustration, and nostalgia. The lyrics are a commentary on the problematic narrative that if you work hard and follow the rules, success and fulfillment are guaranteed, which can lead to unfulfilled expectations and a sense of failure as an adult. The idea of the diploma being full of lies highlights society's expectation that qualifications determine your worth and success. The song illustrates the feeling of lost identity and not belonging that a lot of people feel in their adulthood, where they still don't understand themselves or their place in the world despite everything they have gone through.
