In Dutch speaking countries he is best known for his 1991 hit record ‘Papa’ - about a father/son relation. Since then he has made several albums and has also become quite popular amongst the Afrikaner population of South-Africa where he recorded several songs with crossovers between his European style and the tribal sounds of Southern Africa.
In 2004 he published as a poet. He is still performing and developing new material.
Jardin Du Luxembourg

Van vijftien jaar geleden
We zaten in ons laatste jaar
We waren in Parijs
Jardin du Luxembourg,
Je kunt het parlement zien
En ergens in de verte vliegt
Een witte duif voorbij
De bloemen staan in bloei,
Het was waarschijnlijk lente
De zon staat in het oosten,
Het is een uur of tien misschien
We staan daar naast elkaar
En sommigen die zitten
En in de verte staat
Het witte standbeeld van Racine
Het was de tweede dag
Als ik mij goed herinner
We zongen 's avonds op de trappen
Van de Sacre Coeur
En we wisten: volgend jaar
Dan scheiden onze wegen,
Maar we lachen allemaal,
Op klein formaat in kleur
De onbetwiste leider
Staat vooraan in het midden
Lachend en uitdagend,
Altijd het hoogste woord
En altijd grote plannen
Om de wereld te veranderen
Het is nu vijftien jaar geleden,
Ik heb er niets meer van gehoord
En ver voorbij de laatste rij
Staat zij, ze was verlegen
De stille buitenstaander
Die nooit werd opgemerkt
Ik heb onlangs gelezen
Dat zij nu als verpleegster
Ergens aan de frontlijn
Van een burgergoorlog werkt
En de denker staat afwezig daar
Te staren naar de hemel
Hij speelt met de gedachte
Over tijd en eeuwigheid
Hij had talent, was voorbestemd
Een meesterwerk te schrijven
Maar de beste gaan het eerste,
Wij zijn het schuim dat overblijft
Ik weet nog hoe wij 's avonds,
Bijna elke avond
Keken naar de kleuren
Van de ondergaande zon
We dronken wijn en zaten
Op de Place de la Concorde
En we zagen in de verte
Een ark van triompf
Ik zag vandaag een foto
Van vijftien jaar geleden
We zaten in ons laatste jaar,
We waren in Parijs
Jardin du Luxembourg,
Je kunt het parlement zien
En ergens in de verte,
Vliegt een witte duif voorbij
Stef Bos’s “Jardin Du Luxembourg” is a nostalgic song about looking back at a photo from fifteen years ago when the singer was with his friends on a trip to Paris during their last year of school. The photo was taken in the Jardin Du Luxembourg, where they could see the parliament and a white dove flying in the distance. The flowers were in bloom, and it was probably springtime. The singer recalls that they were standing next to each other, while some sat down. In the distance was the white statue of Racine.
The singer remembers that it was the second day of their trip when they sang on the steps of the Sacre Coeur in the evening. They all knew that next year their paths would separate, but they laughed together in the photo. The leader of the group is pictured in the middle, always full of big plans to change the world, but the singer hasn’t heard from him in fifteen years. The shy outsider of the group, who was never noticed, is now working as a nurse on the frontline of a civil war. The thinker of the group is staring absentmindedly at the sky, lost in thought about time and eternity, but he died before he could write his masterpiece.
The song is a reflection on how much has changed in fifteen years and how we can never go back to what once was. The memories captured in the photo are all that remain of a time that has passed. The Jardin Du Luxembourg becomes a symbol of fleeting moments that we try to hold on to while they slip away.
