Schepen In De Ochtend
Stef Bos Lyrics

De wind gaat liggen
De rivier wordt langzaam blauw
De lucht wordt lichter
En wij staan daar aan de kade
Kijkend naar de ochtendmist
Bang dat iets voorbijgaat
En de schepen in de ochtend
Vetrekken naar de zee
Blijven wij hier achter
Of gaan we met ze mee
Er zijn stiltes, er zijn stormen
Er zijn schepen die vergaan
Maar ik wil nog één keer tot het einde van de wereld gaan
De zon komt op
De stad komt in beweging
Gaan wij samen door
Of scheiden onze wegen
De een die houdt zich schuil
De ander houdt zich stil
Ik zeg niet wat ik voel
Jij zegt niet wat je wilt
En de schepen in de ochtend
Vetrekken naar de zee
Blijven wij hier achter
Of gaan we met ze mee
Er zijn stiltes, er zijn stormen
Er zijn schepen die vergaan
Maar mijn hart wil nog één keer op de barricades staan
The song "Schepen In De Ochtend" by Stef Bos is a hauntingly beautiful ode to the uncertainty of life and the choices we have to make. The lyrics paint a picture of a tranquil morning scene in which the sun rises, the wind calms, and the river turns blue, but beneath the surface lies a sense of unease. As the singer stands on the banks of the river and watches the mist shimmering in the morning light, he or she is fearful that something may slip away before it even begins.
The metaphor of the ships departing for the sea captures the idea that life moves forward, and we have to decide whether we stay behind or venture out into the unknown. There are moments of stillness and moments of chaos, ships that sink without a trace, but the singer declares that he or she wants to go on one more journey to the ends of the world. The song also touches upon the idea of personal relationships, questioning whether we walk together or take separate paths, and the choice we make invariably determines our destiny.
Overall, "Schepen In De Ochtend" is a poignant and thought-provoking ballad that speaks to the universal human experience of grappling with the transience of life and the quest to find meaning and purpose in it.
