Pr… Read Full Bio ↴Stefie Shock (b. March 9, 1969) is a Québécois singer-songwriter.
Previously a Montreal disc jockey, Shock crafts a modern sound, notably with funk and pop influences. He sings in a low, conspiratorial voice; prominently inspired by his idol, French singer Serge Gainsbourg. In Québec, he has become quite a well-known musician, especially since the release of his second album. His music sounds similar to most Québec pop music: solid production, extensive use of keyboard sounds, and non-pop influences. On Le Décor, various styles, including rock and roll, lounge music, and 1980s electro-pop, are heard.

Trop fragile dehors
Le corps est trop petit
Trop fragile dehors (ouais!)
Mais tout le monde
Tout le monde est triste
Tout le monde pleure, bébé!
Tout le monde est triste
Tout le monde est triste
Tout le monde est triste
Tout le monde est triste
Tout le monde est triste
Même les avant-gardistes
Les méchants qui torpillent
Et puis les filles qui vacillent
Et les bébés qui font
La vraie sécurité
C'est de pas bouger
Le cœur est sensible
Faut pas le secouer dans sa prison
Où y a pas d'saisons
Le corps est trop petit
Trop fragile dehors
Le corps est trop petit
Trop fragile dehors (ouais!)
Mais tout le monde
Tout le monde est triste
Tout le monde pleure, bébé!
Tout le monde est triste
Tout le monde est triste
Tout le monde est triste
Tout le monde est triste
Tout le monde
Tout le monde
Tout le monde
Mais tout le monde
Tout le monde est triste
Tout le monde
Tout le monde est triste
Mais tout le monde
Tout le monde est triste
Tout le monde pleure, bébé!
Tout le monde est triste
Tout le monde pleure, bébé!
The lyrics of Stefie Shock's song Tout le monde est triste suggest a pervasive feeling of sadness and unease among people. The opening lines - "Tout le monde est triste, tous les gens sont gris" - set the tone for the rest of the song, as Shock goes on to describe a world where there are no seasons, nothing outside is safe, and even avant-gardists and baby's cry. The heart sleeps quickly, always quick to take shelter from an environment that is fragile and unsafe, and while there may be a sense of luxury inside the house, everything must be kept clean and in pristine order.
Amidst all of this, there is a sense that nothing is changing and nothing will ever improve, leading to a general feeling of melancholy that seems to permeate everything. Shock talks about the body being too small and too fragile to withstand the weight of the outside world, and so it is better to stay home where it is safe. This sense of hopelessness is perhaps best encapsulated in the lines "la vraie sécurité, c'est de pas bouger," where the only real safety is found in not moving at all.
Overall, the lyrics are quite powerful, painting a picture of a world that feels increasingly unstable and unsafe, and a society that is struggling to cope with that reality. The repeated refrain of "tout le monde est triste" drives home the idea that this is not an individual problem, but a collective one that affects us all.
