Stepdad is an Electronic Pop band based in Grand Rapids, MI. Originally a duo, they formed in the summer of 2009 when roommates, ultramark and Ryan McCarthy, began writing songs together in their Chicago apartment. In 2010 they released their debut EP "Ordinaire" which spawned 2 singles, Jungles and My Leather, My Fur, My Nails. They recently recorded their debut album with producer Chris Zane who is known for his work with Passion Pit, Mumford and Sons, & The Walkmen.

In the first stanza of Stepdad's song "It's You", the singer talks about a desolate and abandoned town, and how when it rains, the people drown. He then pushes through the overgrowth and remembers that life has its mysteries and uncertainties, but it's always worth trying to navigate them. The chorus repeats the phrase "It's you, always you" which suggests that he has found someone who is his constant, his guide, and support. The second stanza refers to the hardships that they both encounter, where their relationship is tested by storm clouds, thunders and pain. The singer assures the other person that he/she is the one he/she always turns to. The final line of the song refers to the idea that no matter where they go, they will always leave a mark on each little town they visit.
