Australia - I was really impressed with the clip. I love the improvements they have done with the lights and I prefer the stairs to the fans from nf. Looks really polished and ready, and even though you could tell he was emotional here towards the end - it was still really controlled and vocally on point. This is gonna surprise people with how well he will do.

Cyprus - The clip looks really aestethic. Loved it. Not surprised by this at all, but her vocals were also really steady and on point.

Ireland - My winner of todays rehearsals and big surprise! I always did like this song, but after Eurosong I was WORRIED. I now think she's qualifying. Brooke has put in some serious work in between all the pre-parties and it's very impressive the improvements we have seen from her.

Sweden - I was watching WiWi and it was all very dramatic. Personally, I don't think this was ever a winner, but obviously I want Cornelia to do well. I always root for Sweden and our other neighbors just a slight bit extra. Personally from this clip, I don't think this looks bad considering the issues she had, But I think their staging isn't working for this big stage, in particular the wide shots that really drowns her on stage and shows the dead rainbow... Maybe that's only visible in this short clip. I think that Sweden this year should have revamped their staging for Eurovision. She's gonna do well, but I don't see the winning vibes that I had from Ukraine.

Poland - That effect needs to go. Otherwise it was pretty interesting.

Than you again, Shane! I admire you for commenting and making these videos for us eventhough working fulltime. I couldn't do it so I have to settle for commenting these 🤪

I, too, spotted the immobility or at least stiffness from the short video of Cyprus. I thouht that maybe it was just a bad shot but it seems its not, afterall. Too bad, I was starting to warm up for it.

I'm also so sorry for Estonia. It seems, though, that they haven't even tried to fix it. I believe there should have been something they could have done. But what is this rubbish of the led to be used for interval acts, it seems a bit unfair.. Is it because they have to turn the sun and there is no time to do it in between the performances?

I think Polands clip looked amazing. I saw the reaction of Matt from Escunited to it from their live so I knew there was something special coming. He was so impressed but I'm kind of sad because seeing the reaction kind of ruined the suprise for me 😅

I actually enjoyed the clip from We are Domi, but I can see that becoming repetative if that is all they got. Too bad for this too.

Have a nice weekend, try not to stare your computer too much! 🤗

Heylin's World

I think you've always been very positive and fair in your commentary throughout your videos. It's one of the reasons I subscribed to you in the first place, so thank you.

Twitter is a bit of a toxic hellscape. lol. I go there for the funny memes but sometimes the vitriolic comments get a bit much after a while. So many Eurofans on there are just talking out of their asses when it comes their criticisms and are looking for any excuses to tear down popular entries they either don't like or feel are challenging their own favourites and I totally understand why the EBU gave the statement they did. No one over there seems to have any patience for the REHEARSAL process AND the fact that we're only seeing a tiny fraction of the full performance and everything will feel different in the context of the full performance in the actual show. nor do they understand that shit goes wrong all the time and I guarantee everyone in that venue is working their asses off to fix the issues that are coming up with sound and camera angles and what not. It's a tech rehearsal, this is exactly what they're for! And despite all of those issues, most of the performances are looking really good, even with the static sun setback some have had to work around.

anyway, rant over. That wasn't directed at you, it's just something that's been bugging me about fan reactions to certain delegations. haha.

Moving on to your actual recap: To answer your question about the cracked sun effect, there's actually quite a few different lighting fixtures rigged in there and they can be programmed to do a great many things. LED fixtures have a bit more flexibility in what they can do in terms of colours and effects and stuff. I think it's a really clever effect and I'm glad they found uses for it.

Having seen Italy and Spain's rehearsal clip I think they even fly another lighting rig down in front of it sometimes? which looks very cool!

But yeah, I think the cracked sun effect does a good job of making the those arches look intentional in the space instead of just in the way. And I lowkey think Estonia's staging might look a bit nicer if they had some sky blue and sandy coloured lighting in that sun to match the projection going on behind it.

But I think your comments about Estonia are completely fair. I felt exactly the same watching that rehearsal clip and I hope you're right and the song will sell itself regardless of the staging, because that sun just completely ruins the atmosphere they're trying to create and I'm so disappointed for Stefan. But you had some really good ideas with the camera angles! And you say you don't have a critical eye! haha.

Poland's rehearsal clip was a little bit disjointing to watch and I almost wish they'd chosen different moments to upload because that shaking camera effect looks a bit off-putting outside of the context of the full performance and I'm not sold on the water drop effect over the camera either. But I believe you when you say the full performance is a lot stronger. I'm keen to see the full thing. I LOVE the demon choreography going on around him in that clip. I think that looks really cool!

Ireland's staging looks so good!! I've been worried about her qualification chances for a while now but my hopes have just been raised sky high and I'll be so disappointed if she doesn't make it to the final. It looks like she's done such a good job with this song and I want her to qualify so bad! haha. It's a shame Cyprus's staging is looking a bit lackluster. I had wondered if they would have trouble bringing energy to the performance live and it seems like I was right to worry, but it would be a shame if she misses out on the final. I do really like the song.

Czech Republic's staging looks really good from the clip I saw! I'd be okay with that qualifying now! haha. I wasn't sold on it at first, but I like that light show they've got going on. Very smart to close the semi on that one, I think.

I'm now in a position where I need more songs to qualify then there are places in the final so the results of this one are going to be a nail biter for sure! But I can't wait to see all these performances in full.

Umm... sorry for the essay. But in my defence this is a long video and you made a lot of really great points to bounce off of. haha.

Terry ESC Reactions 24-7

Sadly some of the fandom can be extremely toxic and we see it year after year, sadly I don't really see it ever-changing. Some people just get very passionate about it, perhaps naturally so, because they want their country to do as well as possible. But sometimes it can just go too far.

Regarding press passes, my main understanding is that they are cut down on the number of onsite passes given out and also cut down on the numbers given to the fansites which normally make up the largest chunk of the onsite press. Before the big TV companies and newspapers turn up during the main Eurovision week. This is sad, but it is what it is I guess.

My gosh Shane, when you said your plan of doing a short video wasn't going to plan, I actually checked how long the video was. FIFTY MINUTES. Yeah, you failed spectacularly on that front 🤣

Australia - The clip from the Eurovision channel didn't give much away, but Sheldon as we all know has a great voice. I just still don't really connect with the song. I am going, to be honest with you Shane, I see the juries going massively for this. I still don't think the televote is going to vote highly for Australia. But it will qualify for sure, I have no worries about that.

Cyprus - The picture stills we got looked very effective, but the clip released today was perhaps a little bit underwhelming. I also noticed that she seemed to be just standing in place and I don't think I noticed a lot of dancing either. Hoping that the whole package will convince me more though as this is one that has been growing on me a lot recently.

Ireland - I agree with you Shane, I think Ireland have put itself into contention to qualify. The staging looked good and vocally Brooke was strong, I think to be able to qualify she needs to be on point for both the jury show and the live TV show. But it certainly was one of the stronger rehearsals of today based on the YouTube clip.

North Macedonia - The YouTube clip was kinda flat and "just there", and to be honest that kinda describes the whole song. I just don't see how this is qualifying

Estonia - I have seen a lot of people say Estonia have been most affected, it is a shame as the song has been growing lots on me. Hoping it doesn't affect its chances too negatively. But I did notice the audience shots, so I think that is a very good choice

Oh Shane, not you mentioning Eye Cue, lets never discuss that staging or those two outfits she wears ever again 🤣

Romania - I noticed that the lyrics were on the two sides of the "Sun", similar to how Portugal are doing it now. Maybe that is just later on in the song. This was a nice performance I thought.

Poland - From that YouTube clip I wasn't massively sure about this, I didn't hate it (like it sounds like some people do), but I was perhaps a bit worried some people may feel it is a bit, over staged perhaps. But it seems that the 3-minute version comes together better as an overall package. So I am intrigued to watch that and see the full story.

Montenegro - The little clip didn't give away much, but what I saw was alright. Not sure about that circle thing behind her though. 🤣

Belgium - I am starting to think this is an NQ, the song was starting to be overshadowed by other songs prior to rehearsals and I feel the staging is following the same path. Which is a shame considering the positive vibes when Jeremie was first announced as the Belgian representative.

Sweden - They have kept it simple like MF, which we all knew. I still think this could be the winner. Have to say, I wasn't keen on her hairstyle, I much preferred the raggedy look in MF.

Czech Republic - I quite liked the staging here, I think it worked rather well. I really liked the light turning off moment. But need to see the whole performance to make a full decision

Sorry about the long essay, good job I don't have a press pass, otherwise my videos would be 3 hours long. And nobody wants to watch that. Not even myself 🤣

Great insights Shane, you are a natural and make so many great points 😀

100% disappointed and 100% not surprised Eurovision had to make such a statement. So many people struggle to grasp things like their opinion isn't fact, and it seems some have taken it to the extreme. I keep the bulk of my less favourable comments about songs and staging off large public spaces because I think there's enough negativity out there, and anyone who seeks out someone to target with that stuff is going way over the line. The Eurovision community needs a culture shift. The internet needs a culture shift. Society needs a culture shift. What you say and how you say it matter. And this is the short version, I can and did go on and on about this 😂

Australia - I saw your tweets (though hours later), from what we saw I thought things were going pretty well. He does seem to like playing with the melody in places, whether deliberate or just doing what he feels in the moment I haven't a clue but he always sounds darn good. I had no doubt he'd be more composed now, if nothing else than having learned from the experience of the national final performance and having had time to work on channeling the emotions if they do come up again.

Cyprus - Didn't notice the sun at all, but the big shots not working is something that comes up for a lot of them. The big stage really works for some, but for those not using it there's no need to show it off. That probably goes doubly for participants who had to rework their staging due to the issues with the sun. She sounds great, looks amazing. Dancers may not have got into position completely smoothly when joining Andromache in the middle section of the prop, but once in position very effective.

Ireland - looked great, she's sounding good too. She was right, this is much more grown up than the national final performance, and so polished.

North Macedonia - sounding good, a little swalowed on the stage when they pan out but overall looking good.

Estonia - the change between the sepia & colour helps create interest, an effect I hadn't anticipated. The jump onto the path & run to the B stage isn't 100% landing for me (I don't remember it being shown in the clip that he goes back to the main stage, if so I agree with what you say about him maybe just staying on the B stage). Cutting to the empty seats is a little funny to include in the clip they posted. Agree that shots that are more overhead making the floor a background would help ease the issue of the malfunctioning sun.

Romania - think some camera angles could still still be tweaked but over all pretty good. I'm not sure if they have changed the LEDs at all, the words were still being posted on there and in the centre so they were covered by the sun. It is of course more obvious in the long shots. A little disappointed that both the shirt removal in this, and Sheldon's mask being off in his clip, are the featured parts of the clips. Yes we've seen photos that indicate this, and a lot of people who just tune in on the night aren't going to see this... but if an artist has a reveal maybe leave it out of the clips and photos as much as possible?

Poland - not sure what comments you're seeing, but with the clip we've seen I felt like the effects were a little too much in that moment. That was my impression with full knowledge that the whole song probably isn't like this and this is just one run through we are seeing. I have no idea to what degree they changed up the effects in the different run throughs and if this is the one with the most, the least, or a middle ground of the effects. I didn't completely hate it, but I can also understand that some might be more physically affected by it. And once again the choice of clip can be misleading about the overall performance so that has played into some of this feedback. He is of course sounding good and the dancers looked a lot more effective in these shots (which I suspected would be the case). Also very glad they are featuring the water that is part of the stage. Bit of a no-brainer, but sometimes they don't go for the obvious.

Montenegro - her stage outfit (which we saw in the photos & TikTok - even the light up disc, though not in action) is much more normal than I was expecting. It's still quite unusual and stylistic but will not throw off as many people as her other outfits have been. Vocals sounding decent for the most part. The lighting up of the bodice of the gown really effective, and I think the disc works especially well in the close ups.

Belgium - In the photos I thought the dancers stood out more than they did at the Madrid pre-party, but in the clip they were a little lost in the background again. And the sun is noticeable. I liked the choreo and he's sounding good.

Cornelia - felt like this is one that might've benefited from being on the B stage with the water off, would be interesting to find out if there was a technical reason they didn't, a stylistic one, or something else. Hopefully they can get the tech issues sorted

We Are Domi - the sun was looking ok in the photos, but in this it's standing out a lot more than I expected. Looked and sounded pretty good in the clip. Love me some purple 💜

You are right , these comments on Twitter about Krystian's performance are unjust, unfair and totally rubbish. How can you evaluate the 3-minutes show if you saw 20% of it??? Crazy. I'm sure Poland will easily qualify and will rank high in the finals✌🌊🇵🇱❤

Barbac...basically you cant evaluate it on the clips released...so just be confident from what I saw...its looking good for Krystian and Poland :-)

Thank you for another insightful analysis of this year's performances.. I totally love Australia, Cyprus, Romania and Poland today. Yes, I LoVE Polish lightnings and camera shaking ❤️ I don't have twitter but I saw comments on wiwibloggs and most of them are terrible. Just like you said, people judge the whole performances based by 30 sec.
My heart breaks when think of Estonia ☹️he is in my top 5 as well.

Btw I loved when you said that Cornelia doesn't have feet 😂
