Daydreamers
Stephanie Dosen Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We are standing in the rain
Again only in our minds
Filling up the time we lost
Before we said goodbye

We are daydreamers, we are invincible
And we're mad from all the longing, we feel
You'll find us in the garden just imagining it's real
Growing in silence and watered by tears
Flowers like fingers are holding us here

The half moon has a tale to tell
Of what she has become
What was new, was torn in two
But time will bring the sun

We are daydreamers, we are invincible
And we're mad from all the longing, we feel
You'll find us in the garden just imagining it's real

Growing in silence and watered by tears
Flowers like fingers are holding us here

Overall Meaning

The opening verse of Stephanie Dosen's Daydreamers suggests that the singer thinks about an earlier time that was lost before they parted ways. Though they are genuinely alone, they are entirely lost in deep contemplation, lost in their minds. They are present physically but their minds are wandering, imagining the past and what was lost before they said goodbye. The second verse refers to the dreamlike state of the daydreamers who are engrossed in their thoughts. They seem unstoppable, but their obsession with past thoughts and emotions are driving them mad.

In the chorus, Dosen repeats that "we are daydreamers," and this seems to be both a self-awareness statement and a description of her state of mind. The imagery of being caught up in the beauty of nature while one’s mind is overtaken by emotions creates a poignant atmosphere. The daydreamers are lost in their own world where they find comfort through their imagination. The final verse introduces the image of a half-moon, the singer suggests that though something was lost, time and self-reflection will inevitably draw out new beginnings.
