Fly Away
Stephanie J. Block Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

She'd tell me 'bout Captain Hook and all of his men
Who followed Peter with a hook replaced as his hand
In those tales, bad guys seldom did win
So the Captain was eaten and Wendy had twins
That's the story as I recall
Though I may have made up the end
I don't remember much at three feet tall
Except for when I'd say,
"Mom, let me go to Never Neverland
Let me fly for one day
Throw that fairy dust in my hair
As I pretend I'm flying away"
I'm flying away

Well to my surprise, I grew up too fast,
And that easy life of Tinkerbell never did last
So I silently dream myself far, far away
Where I would be immortalized like Peter one day
And that's my childhood as I recall
Though in some ways it never did end
And now I'm standing, well, a little bit taller
Except for when I say,

"Mom, let me go to Never Neverland
Let me fly for one day
Throw that fairy dust in my hair
As I pretend I'm flying away"
I'm flying away

And though life is never easy as we as children read in the books
Where fairy dust could just fly you so far away
And all I ask is that you leave me my imagination
So I can pretend I'm flying away
I'm flying away
And that is where I'll stay
Right here in Never Neverland
I'd be flying, I'd be dying
For love and appreciation
Where mermaids would sing
And fairies would ring
Right down here in Never Neverland
And it's second to the left and straight on 'til morning
Or was it second to the right and straight on 'til morning?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Stephanie J. Block's song Fly Away is about the singer's childhood memories of listening to her mother's stories about the fictional land of Never Neverland. She remembers being captivated by the tale of Peter Pan, Captain Hook, and Wendy, and wishing she could be a part of that world. The singer says that as she has grown older, life has become harder, and the freedom and adventure of childhood seem like a distant memory. She still longs to fly away to Never Neverland, where she can run free and escape the harsh realities of the real world.

The song is a tribute to the power of imagination and nostalgia for lost childhood. It evokes a sense of yearning for simpler times, and a desire to escape the trials and tribulations of adulthood. The lyrics suggest that while growing up is inevitable, it's important to hold on to the playful, imaginative spirit of childhood.

I would literally die if Stephanie j. Block called me and sang Defying Gravity for me over the phone! No, seriously, she has got to be the most incredible singer and actress in the history of Broadway (In my personal opinion)!

@mirandawessel1538

That would be nice for you, Mikeala. She is after all your favorite singer and actress....she looks beautiful....way more beautiful than Miley Cyrus and Nicki Minaj....both unlady like! She has to be the beautiful and wonderful actress because she looks beautiful and looks wonderful!

@BroadwayGirl826

This is such a beautiful song! Ever since I was 5 years old, I've always loved the Broadway version of Peter Pan so this is a really touching song for me. I absolutely love Sho and Stephanie! They are both so amazing!

Stephanie J Block is one of Broadway's crown jewels.. One of Broadway's Best not so kept secret secret.. I could listen her sing pages out of the phone book and enjoy it as though she was singing something straight out of any of the best Broadway musical's!!! she is on my list of people I want to meet or better yet someone I'd to work with.. I run lights or sound or both, stage manage.. That would be just about the best thing that could happen to me!!!

Wow, reading the back story of this song gave me goosebumps!! Stephanie J Block is one of the best performers I have ever had the privilege of seeing live. No doubt about it.

@bwaycraz3d84

I'm so glad I had to opportunity to see her in Wicked and 9 to 5. Now I have her autograph, a picture of me with her, and her first solo CD, along with all the cast recordings she's on. I can't wait to see where she lands next!

@ricmichaels3040

@nygypsy318

This is actually one of my very favorite songs (I have a Peter Pan/Neverland/never-wanna-grow up thing myself), and I was introduced to it when I stumbled on Stephanie singing it... who knows where anymore. I'm definitely doing my part in spreading the word of its greatness!

@johndriscoll1568

Probably the most underrated singers ever, She is Incredible,

@entertainer1987

What I really enjoy about her performances is that she tells a story when she sings. She's a very gifted woman.
