She signed a five album deal with Hut (part of Virgin Records) in 2002 on the strength of her a cappella demos. Her debut album That Girl was released in 2003 and received praise from both the rock and mainstream press. However, six months later EMI closed the label. Stephanie was already busy writing her second album with a fresh new sound in mind. As she said “When my deal ended so abruptly it made me realise if I were to survive in this business I had to wise up and do it my own way. The new album would have to be how I hear the songs in my head, I wanted it to be magical.”.
Stephanie is currently based in London and is working on new material.

Stephanie Kirkham Lyrics

Monday morning maybe he'll show
I moved the table, cleaned the window
He sits at the same place every week
In the reflection I see him searching
Eyes open wide watching passers by
My mouth is dry
The lyrics to Stephanie Kirkham's Monday Morning convey a sense of anticipation and longing for someone who may or may not show up. The repetition of the line "Monday morning maybe he'll show" highlights the uncertainty and hope that the singer holds onto. The mundane tasks of moving the table and cleaning the window suggest that life goes on, but the lyrics also reveal that the singer is distracted by her thoughts and observations of the man whom she hopes to see. We get the sense that she knows him from the line "He sits at the same place every week", and the reflection of him searching suggests that he too may be looking for her. The open-endedness of the lyrics brings to mind the idea of missed connections and serendipitous encounters that are universal experiences for many.
The line "My mouth is dry" suggests that the singer is both anxious and nervous about the possibility of seeing the man, which speaks to the vulnerability and fragility of human emotions. The lyrics capture the essence of moments suspended in time, where everything seems to revolve around the possibility of seeing someone special. As the song progresses, we are left wondering whether the singer's hope will be rewarded or dashed, and this ambiguity creates a sense of tension that makes the song all the more compelling.
