reminds you of a different time
of a safer time
you were able to walk the streets
you were able to talk to stangers
you were able to not lock your doors
you could knock on your neighbors door
you could eat at a neighbors house
you were not scared
you were not anxious
you were you
Don't Cry For Me Argentina
Stephanie Lawrence Lyrics

When I try to explain how I feel
That I still need your love after all that I've done
You won't believe me
All you will see is a girl you once knew
Although she's dressed up to the nines
At sixes and sevens with you
Couldn't stay all my life down at heel
Looking out of the window, staying out of the sun
So I chose freedom
Running around trying everything new
But nothing impressed me at all
I never expected it to
Don't cry for me Argentina
The truth is I never left you
All through my wild days
My mad existence
I kept my promise
Don't keep your distance
And as for fortune, and as for fame
I never invited them in
Though it seemed to the world they were all I desired
They are illusions
They're not the solutions they promised to be
The answer was here all the time
I love you and hope you love me
Don't cry for me Argentina......
Don't cry for me Argentina
The truth is I never left you
All through my wild days
My mad existence
I kept my promise
Don't keep your distance
Have I said too much? There's nothing more I can think of to say to you
But all you have to do is look at me to know that every word is true
"Don't Cry for Me Argentina" is a song written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice for the 1978 Broadway musical "Evita." The song is sung by the titular character, Eva Perón, as a message to the people of Argentina. In this song, we see Eva Perón trying to explain how she feels after she has changed her ways for the better. She acknowledges that what she did before was not right, and that people may find it strange that she still needs their love.
At the beginning of the song, Eva talks about how it will be hard for her to explain how she feels. She knows that people will think it's strange that after everything she has done, she still needs their love. She goes on to say that even though she has changed her ways, people may still only see her as the girl they once knew. She explains that she had to change and that she couldn't stay in the same place forever.
However, despite changing her ways and being surrounded by illusions of fortune and fame, Eva realizes that what she truly desires is the love of the people of Argentina. She declares that the answer was here all the time, and that she hopes they can love her back. In the end, she asks them not to cry for her, indicating that she is still there and that she never truly left.

A great singer and beautiful woman from hayling Islands musical family the lawrences. What a tragedy that she died from drug overdose so young. Was priviledged to know her and she supported our fire service charity and appeared in the 1983 Royal Tournament as part of our WWII scenario for the great producer Major Sir Michael Parker. Sleep well lovely.
